Almost as surprising as the death that put an exclamation point on Episode 6 of Dutton Ranch<\/a><\/em> was the man responsible.<\/p>\n

The actor who plays the trigger man admits that when he first read the script, he was heartbroken.<\/p>\n

“I’ve been on the other side of that in a couple of my previous shows,” he tells Taste of Country.<\/p>\n

Dutton Ranch<\/em> <\/strong>Episode 6 – A Surprise Death<\/h3>\n

Toward the end of Ep. 6, Chet (the recently fired foreman of the 10 Petal Ranch) confronts Joaquin, Beulah Jackson’s adopted son.<\/p>\n

Series villain Rob Will had just fired Chet up with a speech about loyalty, so he was feeling strong as he points the gun.<\/p>\n

Chet is preparing a kill shot after firing a round that hits Joaquin in the hand, but a bullet strikes him in the head and he drops dead.<\/p>\n

“It’s not like Chet didn’t deserve it,” says Berto Colon, the actor who plays Miguel.<\/p>\n

To this point, viewers only knew Miguel as Oreana’s driver and Beulah’s security detail. He saves Joaquin’s life during a dramatic moment that surely foreshadows more like it.<\/p>\n

“I mean, once you start killing, you know you’re going to be next, right?” he adds.<\/p>\n

Berto Colon Interview<\/h3>\n

Prior to Dutton Ranch<\/em>, Berto Colon is best known as Cesar from the Netflix hit Orange Is the New Black.<\/em><\/p>\n

He spoke to Taste of Country from his home in New York and he admitted\u00a0that discovering he kills Chet (played by Hart Denton) was heartbreaking.<\/p>\n

“I remember getting the episode,” he says. “There’s always so much mutual respect. I love Hart, but I just like, he got out of a cab, I was going in the hotel or coming out and I just like dropped what I was doing and I just f—ing went up to him and I just gave him a big hug and it was like, such a bummer, right?”<\/p>\n

“In real life, these things happen. And I’m sure he knew what was coming, but I didn’t,” Colon adds.<\/p>\n

The two new friends got through a scene that ultimately sent Denton looking for a new job.<\/p>\n

Could Miguel (Colon) be next?<\/p>\n

“I’ll tell you personally, from the way my career has worked thus far, I’ve been lucky enough to be put in a position where sometimes my work in a series or in a movie starts off smaller, and for whatever reasons, it becomes a little bit bigger,” the actor shares.<\/p>\n

TL;DR version: don’t count Miguel out yet. He may very well be behind the wheel once again if and when Season 2 of Dutton Ranch<\/em> begins.<\/p>\n
