The song, off the 1991 album <em>Heart in Motion<\/em>, gave Grant her first chart-topper as a solo artist. Previously, she had hit Number One as part of a collab, the 1986 duet with Peter Cetera \u201cThe Next Time I Fall.\u201d In a new interview with <em>Rolling Stone<\/em>\u2019s <em>Nashville Now<\/em> podcast, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/amy-grant-sets-first-musical-return-in-a-decade-1234689251\/\">Grant<\/a>, who had made her career to that point in the Christian music space, says her record label at the time worried she couldn\u2019t carry \u201cBaby Baby\u201d alone.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t\u201cThey wanted me to duet with somebody. They talked about Aretha Franklin,\u201d she recalls. \u201cThey said, \u2018We need to deliver it in a brown bag. Who\u2019s gonna listen to this from the girl from the Contemporary Christian Music world?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-instagram wp-block-embed-instagram\"\/>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tAfter a radio station in San Diego began playing \u201cBaby Baby\u201d and listeners started furiously requesting the song, Grant proved she could indeed make waves as a pop singer. It\u2019s a record that finds the singer-songwriter probing life in her sixties, and all the challenges and blessings that go along with it. She kicks off a tour in support of the LP on Wednesday in Decatur, Georgia.
