\n\tWe\u2019re calling it:\u00a0Harry Styles<\/a>\u00a0just delivered the single greatest moment of his solo career.<\/p>\n

\n\tLast night saw the singer, currently in the middle of 12 Wembley Stadium dates, head across the London capital for a very special one-off show at the\u00a0Meltdown Festival\u00a0he is\u00a0curating for 2026<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\n\tIt\u2019s a typically eclectic lineup compiled by the former 1D man, featuring everything from jazz stalwart Kamasi Washington to brilliant rabble rousers\u00a0Getdown Services\u00a0(who were also excellent at their own show last night).<\/p>\n

\n\tBut when the dust has settled on Meltdown, all eyes will turn toward this very special show. Backed by the Jules Buckley Orchestra, whose very leader arranged the strings on recent album track \u201cComing Up Roses,\u201d here was a show where some of Styles\u2019 finest solo work received a rather beautiful reimagining.<\/p>\n

\n\tYou could hear a pin drop in the cavernous room when he opened with a rare outing of\u00a0Harry\u2019s House<\/em>\u00a0staple \u201cBoyfriends,\u201d before he reflected on the significance of the show and seemed genuinely touched to be there. One of the main differences between this show and his Wembley run, he quipped, was that you\u2019d be unlikely to see his nipples in this setting.<\/p>\n

\n\tBut where the nips lacked, Styles shone. Underrated debut album cut \u201cTwo Ghosts\u201d rarely sounded so good, while the emotional title track of that very album sparked audible sniffles in the crowd.<\/p>\n

\n\tAnd late on, there was a thread which set the stage for what we\u2019re happy to describe as the single greatest moment of his solo career. Before \u201cCarla\u2019s Song,\u201d he described how the track was inspired by the experience of seeing his friend listen to Simon & Garfunkel\u2019s \u201cBridge Over Troubled Water\u201d for the first time, likening her reaction to someone seeing a magic track for the first time.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cMusic is magic and I feel so lucky to get to be a part of it in just a small way,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI think hearing songs like that is a reminder of this thing that is so much bigger than any one artist that you like. Any one song is this thing that every musician is kind of investing in, and just trying to add a little piece of themselves to. These things\u00a0are around for so much longer than any of us,\u201d he continued. \u201cNights like tonight I feel incredibly privileged to get to play with such incredibly talented musicians.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAppropriate then that Harry had something akin to magic up his own sleeve. It was his own cover of \u201cBridge Over Troubled Water\u201d which closed proceedings and offered, quite genuinely, the single greatest solo performance he has ever delivered. His piercing vocal effortlessly tackled the reserved verses of the Simon & Garfunkel classic, but his high notes in that all too recognizable chorus were absolutely flawless. There has been plenty written about Harry\u2019s effortless showmanship throughout the years, but perhaps not so much about quite how good his vocals \u2013 a thing of baritone beauty \u2013 can be too. This performance proved he\u2019s undoubtedly up there with the very best of them.<\/p>\n

\n\tHarry\u2019s love of the song is well documented too, given that his recent shows have opened with Elvis\u2019 rendition of it. It would be amiss to pit the two against each other, but we\u2019ll happily say that it more than holds it weight against that of The King.<\/p>\n
