He\u2019s won Oscars and Golden Globe Awards, starred in countless movies and Broadway plays, narrated documentaries, championed environmental causes, and lended his star power to political campaigns. And now just one year short of his 90th birthday, he\u2019s broadening out into music with the release of his upcoming album, <em>Morgan Freeman\u2019s Symphonic Blues Experience.<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tThe 12-song LP is a journey through 100 years of blues music, and features guest appearances by Taj Mahal, Keb\u2019 Mo\u2019, Lady Adrena, Shemekia Copeland, Anthony Big A Sherrod, Lady Adrena, and many others. It comes out Aug. 7, but right now you can hear Freeman and Taj Mahal team up for the Son House classic \u201cDeath Letter Blues.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-vimeo wp-block-embed-vimeo\">\n<p>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Death Letter Blues Ft. Taj Mahal\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/1202607338?h=5fb09ae354&amp;dnt=1&amp;app_id=122963\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; fullscreen; picture-in-picture; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\"><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t\u201cI heard the blues for the first time on my grandmother\u2019s porch in the Mississippi Delta, and it has never left me,\u201d Freeman said in a statement. \u201cHaving Taj Mahal kick off this album with a cover of Son House\u2019s classic \u2018Death Letter Blues\u2019 strikes the perfect tone for the introduction of this album. Releasing this on Juneteenth is not just symbolic \u2014 it is the truth of where this music comes from and who made it. I hope people listen and remember.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tIt\u2019s no coincidence the album is being announced on Juneteenth. \u201cThis music was born from the same history that Juneteenth commemorates,\u201d album producer Eric Meier said in a statement. \u201c\u2018Death Letter Blues\u2019 is one of the rawest, most honest pieces in the American songbook, and hearing Taj Mahal inhabit it with a full symphony behind him \u2014 recorded between the hallowed walls of Royal Studios and Abbey Road \u2014 is something that is groundbreaking and unique. It kicks off Aug. 7 in Houston, continues Sept. 26 in Memphis, and wraps up Oct. 17 in Gulfport, Mississippi.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tThis doesn\u2019t mean that Freeman is giving up his day job.
