\n\tOliver Tree<\/a>\u2019s family has established a new foundation, as per the late singer\u2019s wishes, to provide grants to young artists.<\/p>\n \n\tJust two weeks after Tree died in a helicopter crash in Brazil at the age of 32<\/a>, his family launched Dr. Oliver Tree\u2019s Extremely Epic Art Grant for Baby Geniuses<\/a> on Saturday.\u00a0<\/p>\n \n\t\u201cOliver believed the most valuable way for artists to master their craft was not through studying, but by physically getting their hands dirty and creating things,\u201d the foundation said in its mission statement. \u201cThe foundation provides grants to artists working in music, film, installation, and performance art.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tThe foundation stems from Tree\u2019s own vision for what his legacy would be after he died, as he revealed in interviews prior to his death.<\/p>\n \n\t\u201cWhen I die, all the money is going to go back to artists. So I set up a foundation, it\u2019s called \u2018Dr. Oliver Tree\u2019s Art Grants for Baby Geniuses.\u2019 Hopefully it\u2019ll last for 100 years,\u201d Tree said in one video interview shared on the foundation\u2019s website. \u201cYou\u2019re not allowed to buy equipment with the money, you\u2019re not allowed to get education or go to school with the money, but you\u2019re allowed to physically hire people to help produce stuff, you\u2019re allowed to rent gear and equipment.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tTree continued, \u201cThat\u2019s the belief for me, and basically I have a committee that I\u2019ve set up for when I pass \u2014 I plan to do it when I\u2019m alive \u2014 but basically everyone will vote on who the money goes to each year.\u201d As for who will make up the committee, Tree said, \u201cCollaborators I made music or film or art with when I was alive will make the decision.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\t\u201cOliver directed that specified non-art-related and non-sentimental assets be sold to establish the grant fund,\u201d the foundation wrote; donations will also be accepted. \u201cThe fund is intended to support creative art projects while remaining active for at least 50 to 100 years.\u201d<\/p>\n
