Pepper&#8217;s Lonely Hearts Club Band<\/em> movie would bomb before it was even released.<\/p>\n<p>The 1978 film starred the <a href=\"https:\/\/ultimateclassicrock.com\/tags\/bee-gees\">Bee Gees<\/a> and featured an impressive array of musical stars, including <a href=\"https:\/\/ultimateclassicrock.com\/tags\/aerosmith\">Aerosmith<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/ultimateclassicrock.com\/tags\/peter-frampton\/\">Peter Frampton<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/ultimateclassicrock.com\/tags\/alice-cooper\/\">Alice Cooper<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/ultimateclassicrock.com\/tags\/billy-preston\/\">Billy Preston<\/a>. Earth, Wind &amp; Fire played a a memorable part as well, performing the <a href=\"https:\/\/ultimateclassicrock.com\/tags\/beatles\/\">Beatles<\/a>\u2019 \u201cGot to You Into My Life.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEverybody thought it was going to be a big movie,\u201d White recalled during a recent appearance on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=_aQwpc-xtbc\" target=\"_blank\">Magnificent Others with Billy Corgan<\/a> podcast. \u201cWe were just sort of like the Black thing to throw into the movie.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Despite high expectations, White realized the film was doomed when he saw an early cut.<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ MORE: <a href=\"https:\/\/ultimateclassicrock.com\/sgt-peppers-lonely-hearts-club-band-movie\/\">How the &#8216;Sgt. Pepper&#8217;s&#8217; Movie Derailed Two Careers<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe knew it was not going to be a hit because, when we were singing, everything was out of sync,\u201d he recalled. \u201cWe said, \u2018Oh, that&#8217;s the kiss of death.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>White also noted that the movie suffered from a misguided desire to be family friendly entertainment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was a kiddie movie. It was like for kids,\u201d the bassist explained. \u201cAnd the Bee Gees were doing some adult records, man.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>Earth, Wind &amp; Fire&#8217;s Beatles Cover Became a Hit<\/h3>\n<p>The <em>Sgt. Pepper\u2019s Lonely Hearts Club Band<\/em> movie was a critical and commercial failure, but the same can\u2019t be said of Earth, Wind &amp; Fire\u2019s version of \u201cGot to You Into My Life.\u201d The tune became a radio hit and earned the funk group wide acclaim.<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ MORE: <a href=\"https:\/\/ultimateclassicrock.com\/top-funk-songs\/\">Top 40 Funk Songs<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/ultimateclassicrock.com\/tags\/george-harrison\/\">George Harrison<\/a> came up to me and said he thought that was a great rendition,\u201d White recalled. \u201cWe put the single out before the movie came out\u2026 And it was a number one record before the movie came out.
