Catalan composer and experimental musician Marina Herlop<\/a> is readying a new album, Dja Dja<\/em><\/a>. Herlop will self-release her follow-up to 2023\u2019s Nekkuja<\/em><\/a> on October 9. Below, listen to a new song from the record, \u201cJaque<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to press materials, Dja Dja<\/em> was inspired by the \u201cthe hero\u2019s journey,\u201d the narrative framework popularized by Joseph Campbell in his book The Hero With a Thousand Faces<\/em>. Herlop recorded most of the album\u2014which she described as \u201clike a giant sudoku\u201d\u2014at her home, and later traveled to Bali to record local musicians playing gamelan.<\/p>\n
