Veteran midfielder Jordan Henderson tripped over an ad barrier as the England national team celebrated its victory over Mexico in the Round of 16<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
\n\tEngland advanced to the quarterfinals of the World Cup<\/a> last night (July 5) with a dramatic 3 \u2013 2 win over Mexico at the Estadio Azteca in Mexico City. It was a massive victory as Mexico\u2019s men\u2019s national team has lost just two out of 89 matches at the Azteca, and England played much of the second half with 10 men following a red card in the 54th minute.\u00a0<\/p>\n \n\tAs such, the celebrations at the final whistle were immense. As has become tradition, the England players rushed over to their fans, where everyone belted Oasis\u2019 \u201cWonderwall,\u201d<\/a> which has become something of an unofficial anthem. But after the singalong, veteran midfielder Jordan Henderson managed to injure his wrist, and had to be stretchered off the field. (Henderson not only hurt himself, but also got a yellow card from the bench, despite not having played a single minute during the game.)\u00a0<\/p>\n \n\tVideo<\/a> of the incident shows Henderson trying to climb back over the advertising barriers, tripping, and landing hard on his wrist. A few of Henderson\u2019s teammates confirmed he hurt himself in post-match interviews, but they seemed to suggest it wasn\u2019t that bad.\u00a0<\/p>\n \n\tDuring a press conference later, though, England coach Thomas Tuchel described the injury as \u201cnot good\u201d (via The Athletic<\/a><\/em>). \u201cJordan just fell over and injured his wrist. It looks really bad,\u201d he said, adding, \u201cI\u2019m sad because Jordan injured his wrist. It\u2019s quite serious. He\u2019s in hospital.\u201d<\/p>\n
