\n\tThe War and Treaty<\/a> have been multiple nominees at country music\u2019s two big industry awards, the CMAs and the ACMs. But according to the duo\u2019s Michael Trotter, he and his wife and musical partner Tanya Totter have sometimes been told their music doesn\u2019t \u201csound country enough,\u201d only to watch in amazement when Morgan Wallen\u2019s country-pop is lauded on the country charts.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWhen you say things like we don\u2019t \u2018sound country enough\u2019 and then Morgan becomes Number One and his art is, in my opinion, not country enough\u2026,\u201d Michael says. \u201cHmmm, this is a very interesting thing that\u2019s happening here.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThat feeling of being not enough for the genre they love has led the War and Treaty to make some changes in their career. Their latest album, last month\u2019s The Story of Michael and Tanya<\/em>, was released on a new label, they\u2019ve formed their own management company, and they\u2019re targeting spaces where they feel welcome.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cYou go where people want you to be, you take what you can get from that space, and you bring it back home to the root,\u201d Tanya says. \u201cAmericana is roots music. So, everything starts from the roots. \u2026 Just do you and create a system that works for you.\u201d<\/p>\n
