{"id":68482,"date":"2026-07-14T16:19:43","date_gmt":"2026-07-14T16:19:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/musicianvoice.com\/index.php\/2026\/07\/14\/soundgardens-final-album-to-arrive-in-2027-says-kim-thayil-2\/"},"modified":"2026-07-14T16:19:43","modified_gmt":"2026-07-14T16:19:43","slug":"soundgardens-final-album-to-arrive-in-2027-says-kim-thayil-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/musicianvoice.com\/index.php\/2026\/07\/14\/soundgardens-final-album-to-arrive-in-2027-says-kim-thayil-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Soundgarden\u2019s Final Album To Arrive in 2027, says Kim Thayil"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ultimateclassicrock.com\/tags\/soundgarden\/\">Soundgarden<\/a> guitarist <a href=\"https:\/\/loudwire.com\/tags\/kim-thayil\/\" target=\"_blank\">Kim Thayil<\/a> said the band\u2019s final album, featuring recordings of late singer <a href=\"https:\/\/ultimateclassicrock.com\/tags\/chris-cornell\">Chris Cornell<\/a>, will likely arrive in 2027.<\/p>\n<p>He said work was continuing on the project they\u2019d started several years ago, and didn\u2019t rule out the possibility of touring to promote the release.<\/p>\n<p>In a recent interview with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ultimate-guitar.com\/news\/interviews\/kim-thayil-on-making-soundgarden-album-without-chris-cornell-but-with-his-parts-its-got-to-be-as-great-as-it-can-be\">Ultimate Guitar<\/a>, Thayil admitted the band had found it hard going to work with the material Cornell had left following his <a href=\"https:\/\/ultimateclassicrock.com\/soundgarden-night-chris-cornell-died\/\">death<\/a> in 2017, because they were determined to get everything right.<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ MORE:<\/strong>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ultimateclassicrock.com\/soundgarden-badmotorfinger\/\">How Soundgarden&#8217;s &#8216;Badmotorfinger&#8217; Finally Got Some Attention<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are at least two songs that I wrote the music for,\u201d Thayil said. \u201cOne of them, I wrote the lyrics for\u2026 [O]ne of the collaborations would have been that I submitted music to Chris, and he wrote lyrics for them.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[H]e would move the verse and chorus lengths and sequences to accommodate his lyrics. But then, they themselves had to accommodate the dynamic of the instrumental. Sometimes, lengths will increase to accommodate guitar solos.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Asked how many songs would be on the record, he initially said he couldn\u2019t offer an answer, but continued: \u201cPart of that is the work in progress. We&#8217;re looking at the material that we intend to complete, and we also look at material that perhaps we can complete\u2026<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[T]hese are decisions that are going to have to be made between Matt [Cameron] and Ben [Shepherd] and I, and the producer. Right about now, it\u2019s likely about eight or nine songs. More likely nine.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Thayil reported that work was being completed around the band members\u2019 other commitments, which is why they were \u201caiming for next year\u201d as a vague release date.<\/p>\n<h3>What Kim Thayil Thinks of Final Soundgarden Album\u2019s Significance<\/h3>\n<p>\u201cWe have to book studio time here and there,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd it\u2019s been a very busy year for us with the <a href=\"https:\/\/ultimateclassicrock.com\/soundgarden-rock-hall-2025-performance\/\">Hall of Fame induction<\/a>, very busy year for me with<a href=\"https:\/\/ultimateclassicrock.com\/soundgarden-kim-thayil-interview-2026\/\"> the book<\/a>, until last year it was very busy for Matt with <a href=\"https:\/\/ultimateclassicrock.com\/tags\/pearl-jam\/\">Pearl Jam<\/a> recordings and Pearl Jam touring\u2026 we kind of have to work around a lot of that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Asked about the possibility of Soundgarden touring with a guest vocalist or a number of them, Thayil responded: \u201cThat would be discussed roughly, generally, like, \u2018Well, what do we do? How do we promote it?\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe love these songs\u2026 These are ideas that were created by Matt, by Ben, by myself and by Chris.
