Motionless In White<\/strong> are celebrating 20 years as a band and the release of album Decades<\/em> (July 17) shows a solid progression while still paying homage to the last two decades.<\/span><\/p>\n The titular track opens the album with some throwbacks to the Creatures<\/em> era. It\u2019s heavy and the bassline and drum combo throughout is sick, as is the breakdown.<\/span><\/p>\n The synths to open log_in\/\/crash_out<\/em> are cool, they take me back to the modem life of the early internet (that makes me feel old). It\u2019s a catchy track that is more akin to the Scoring the End of the World<\/em> era, with a more melodic and dancey vibe, whilst keeping the metal instrumentation. It tackles the infinite scroll and the decline in the human connection as we become more digitally reliant. It has some brilliant lyrics including the hook right before the breakdown \u201cif this is paradise then I\u2019d rather fucking die<\/em>\u201d, and \u201cthe devil is in the download<\/em>\u201d. The lyrics are brutal and clever.<\/span><\/p>\n One of my favourites is All That I\u2019ve Ever Known<\/em>. I love the line \u201cI can numb the pain, the quiet and the deafening, a symphony of your escape is all that I\u2019ve ever known.<\/em>\u201d The distorted breakdown is something I was not expecting but it absolutely slays.<\/span><\/p>\n Blood Rave<\/em> is an accurate name for the track that literally is like an emo rave track, and I feel like this would be the song a vampire would use to hypnotise someone into giving them blood. It\u2019s probably the most out there song (to date) that I\u2019ve heard from Motionless<\/strong> and is followed up with some very 80s synths to open Love at First Bite<\/em> which is literally a homage to 80s goth electronica and tells the story of a vampire love. It\u2019s one of the stand outs for sure, as is the other track that gives me the 80s gothic vibe \u2013 Sunglasses at Night<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n Lead single Afraid of the Dark<\/em> hits home even more now than it did when it was first released (and it hit hard then too). The track itself is a homage to MIW\u2019s<\/strong> fans and the lyrical Easter eggs are still really cool to spot.<\/span><\/p>\n The guest vocals come from Skylar Grey<\/strong> on R.I.P,<\/em> Corey Taylor<\/strong> on Playing God<\/strong>, and Anthony Martinez<\/strong> on Blood Rave<\/em>. There\u2019s also Outlier<\/strong> on the bonus track Fight Like Hell.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n Each guest vocalist fits perfectly. The standout has to be Grey\u2019s<\/strong> hypnotically perfect vocals on the metal ballad R.I.P.<\/em> It also shows off Chris<\/strong>\u2019 more melodic side to his own vocals and they mix well together. It\u2019s also lyrically beautiful, talking about not being able to live without a loved one. <\/span><\/p>\n The two bonus tracks are really catchy too.<\/span><\/p>\n I\u2019ve never been disappointed by a Motionless In White<\/strong> album and I would like to say I\u2019m surprised at just how good Decades<\/em> is but I can\u2019t because I am not surprised at all, they\u2019ve absolutely slayed throughout the album and it has been my most anticipated album of 2026.<\/span><\/p>\n From start to finish, the album is full of clever lyrics, angst, pit-worthy breakdowns and hooks that will get you jiggy. The mix of absolutely brutal songs from start to finish with the more synth-laden tracks works really well and you don\u2019t know what\u2019s coming next which is a good thing. I love how the experimentation with more synthy, gothic electronica just works so well but of course the heavier tracks are signature MIW<\/strong> and absolutely fabulous.<\/span><\/p>\n Chris<\/strong>\u2019 clean and scream vocals are flawless, Ricky<\/strong> and Ryan\u2019s<\/strong> guitar riffs are *chef\u2019s kiss*, Vinny\u2019s<\/strong> drum fills are top notch, and Justin\u2019s<\/strong> basslines are dark and powerful.<\/span><\/p>\n
