\n\tShania Twain<\/a> looks back to her formative years on her new album Little Miss Twain<\/em>. Released on Friday, it focuses on the period before Twain became a country crossover superstar. In a new interview with Rolling Stone<\/em>\u2019s Nashville Now<\/em> podcast, Twain acknowledges the similar crossover success of Ella Langley<\/a>, whose song \u201cChoosin\u2019 Texas\u201d just marked its 14th week at Number One<\/a> on the Hot 100.<\/p>\n \n\t\u201cI\u2019ve never met Ella Langley, but just from what I\u2019m observing, she seems very authentic. She doesn\u2019t come across to me as somebody that\u2019s trying to be somebody else or trying to write a song with an agenda,\u201d Twain says. \u201cThe way she delivers a song, believe her. I believe what she\u2019s saying.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tBut according to Twain, Langley\u2019s success also underscores the gender disparity in country music. \u201cI would imagine if the awareness and the doors were wider open a few years ago, she would have been here a few years ago,\u201d Twain says. \u201cShe\u2019s not just great now; she didn\u2019t just come out of nowhere.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tTwain, 60, knows about that imbalance firsthand. It\u2019s been 23 years since she had a Top 10 hit on country radio as a lead artist (\u201cShe\u2019s Not Just a Pretty Face\u201d), while some male peers around her age have had numerous Top 10 singles since 2020.<\/p>\n \n\t\u201cIt isn\u2019t just me. There\u2019s a lot of women that have been around for a while, that are only just now surfacing. They\u2019ve been there, there just hasn\u2019t been any room for them to be exposed,\u201d she tells Nashville Now<\/em>. \u201cI\u2019ve built my audience, I\u2019ve worked hard for that audience. We love each other, but what about the new artists? What about the new women?
