Diiv<\/a> have made a stealth announcement of a new album, Zirp!<\/em>, via a hotline number mailed to fans<\/a> and teased on social media. Produced by A. G. Cook<\/a>, the follow-up to Frog in Boiling Water<\/em><\/a> is due October 30. The hotline presents a telemarketer-style message heralding the LP as \u201cthe future of alternative multimedia entertainment,\u201d Stereogum notes<\/a>; Diiv\u2019s own website<\/a> playfully touts the record as an emissary of \u201cthe new alternative: a new genre for the 21st century.\u201d<\/p>\n Coming two years after Frog in Boiling Water<\/em>, Zirp!<\/em> will mark the quickest turnaround for a Diiv LP yet, despite a chaotic interim period in which Zachary Cole Smith and his wife welcomed a second child and lost their home in the Altadena wildfires<\/a>. Last May, the band released a stopgap single, \u201cReturn of Youth<\/a>,\u201d addressing the fallout from the fires.<\/p>\n A. G. Cook, meanwhile, has continued to expand his empire since his last solo album, the 2024 triple-LP Britpop<\/em><\/a>. As well as occasional, genre-spanning releases and reissues<\/a> from projects such as Thy Slaughter<\/a> and Dux Content<\/a>, the producer once again worked closely with Charli XCX<\/a> on new LP Music, Fashion, Film<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
