\n\tPhil Collins<\/a> reveals in a new interview that he nearly died in 2024 amid his battle with alcoholic addiction.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tSpeaking to the Sunday Times<\/a><\/em>, the singer said that he was first admitted to a Swiss hospital in connection with his alcohol use in November 2023. He was initially discharged before Christmas that year, but was readmitted a few weeks later and placed into intensive care, where he lay unconscious.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cMy kidneys were packing up, my organs were just seizing up,\u201d Collins said of the situation. \u201cPeople were coming to say goodbye. But I don\u2019t remember them coming. I didn\u2019t have no idea this was going on. They were all worried that they wouldn\u2019t see me again. It could all have gone so terribly wrong.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tCollins added that his five children rushed to the hospital, thinking their father was on his deathbed. \u201cThere were some decisions to be made about \u2018Do we keep Phil on life support?\u2019 kind of thing,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Genesis singer ultimately spent seven months in the hospital recovering from his near-death ordeal. \u201cI was very lucky to have come out of that,\u201d Phil told the Sunday Times<\/em>. \u201cNeedless to say, I haven\u2019t had a drink since.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tCollins has long been open about his struggles with alcohol addiction, which in part was spurred by the health issues related to his persistent back injuries. \u201cNight after night I find myself lying on the bed, staring out of a skylight at grey Swiss skies, rueing my life,\u201d Collins wrote in his 2016 memoir. \u201cI\u2019m all alone, save for my good friends Johnnie Walker and Grey Goose.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tEarlier this year, Collins spoke about his health issues<\/a>, saying he had a \u201cdifficult, frustrating few years\u201d due to five separate surgeries on his knee. \u201cI have a 24-hour live-in nurse to make sure I take my medication as I should do,\u201d he said. \u201cI\u2019ve had challenges with my knee \u2026 I had everything that could go wrong with me, did go wrong with me.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAt the time, he also said he\u2019d \u201cspent months in hospital\u201d due to his drinking problem, but didn\u2019t elaborate on how severe the situation was until the Sunday Times<\/em> interview.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
