\n\tA new documentary<\/a> focusing on Joe Jackson<\/a> \u2014 the\u00a0domineering father and manager of the hit-making Jackson 5<\/a> and the man who helped launch the massively successful careers of his son\u00a0Michael\u00a0and his daughter Janet \u2014 is in the works. The new project, which is being developed with the help of Jackson\u2019s son Marlon, is set to debut on BLK Prime. An exact release date has not been announced.<\/p>\n

\n\tAccording to an announcement by the Jacksons on Instagram, \u201cThe Manager. The Mythology. The Legend. is an original series\u201d that will offer \u201ca deeper look at the man whose vision helped shape our family and its musical legacy.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe news arrives after the recent release of the blockbuster Michael<\/a><\/em> biopic, which portrayed Jackson as a father with an iron fist and hair-trigger temper who used physical punishment to push his sons to stardom. The film has renewed attention in the Jackson family and Joe\u2019s own legacy within it. Michael, who would later split from his father\u2019s control, accused him of severe childhood emotional and physical abuse, including beatings with iron cords. Joe, who demanded that his nine children call him \u201cJoseph,\u201d later clarified during a television interview: \u201cI whipped him with a switch and a belt. I never beat him \u2014 you beat somebody with a stick.\u201d\u00a0By the time they reached adulthood, most of the Jackson siblings dismissed Joe as their manager.<\/p>\n

\n\tMarlon appears intent to show a different side of his father\u2019s story. \u201cOur father\u2019s life is replete with triumphs and challenges, and we firmly believe that this series will offer a distinctive and accurate portrayal of the man behind our family,\u201d he said. \u201cWe are thrilled to share [my] father\u2019s indelible legacy with fans worldwide, granting them an intimate glimpse into the remarkable individual we knew and loved,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\n\tJoe died<\/a> on June 27, 2018, at the age of 89 after battling terminal cancer<\/a>. Following his death, Janet addressed his death <\/a>during\u00a0New Orleans\u2019 Essence Fest. \u201cHe was very strong, and without\u00a0his drive, his strength \u2026 we wouldn\u2019t have this success,\u201d Janet said of her father. \u201cWe are a Black family that came from Gary, Indiana, and we broke all kinds of records around the globe. That\u2019s truth. My father was a great man.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n
