It\u2019s a wistful, acoustic ballad, stretching past the 11-minute mark, about the passage of time and the need for human connection.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube\">\n<p>\n<span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Neil Young &amp; The Chrome Hearts - Second Song (Official Lyric Video)\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/JZnzpxrHM4M?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/span>\n<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t\u201cI need to talk to someone,\u201d Young sings. \u201cSomeone who smiles and answers back\/Someone as old as I am\/Who still remembers some of that I dream a way of living\/A way of sharing what we find.A way of walking slowly\/Through the smokey leaves of time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t<em>Second Song<\/em> is the second LP by Neil Young and the Chrome Hearts \u2013 which features guitarist Micah Nelson, organ player\/pianist Spooner Oldham, drummer Anthony LoGergo, and bassist Cory McCormick \u2013 following 2025\u2019s <em>Talkin\u2019 to the Trees.<\/em> It was produced by Young and Lou Adler at Rick Rubin\u2019s ShangriLa Studios in Malibu, California.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tFive of the seven tracks on <em>Second Song<\/em> are new works. \u201cThey\u2019re just a rambling set of songs that all came to me while I was in Colorado around the turn of the year,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/neil-young-songs-wrote-teenager-1235591508\/\">Young told <em>Neil Young Archives<\/em> premium subscribers during a Zoom in July.<\/a> \u201cThen I came back here to Malibu and recorded them all, and it went great.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube\">\n<p>\n<span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"I&amp;apos;ll Love You Forever (Mono)\" width=\"1200\" height=\"900\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/O_K-vkRxMiE?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/span>\n<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tYoung and the Chrome Hearts cut all five songs in just two days, and didn\u2019t have anything else to record until Young dug deep into his archives and uncovered \u201cI\u2019ll Love You Forever\u201d and \u201cCasting Me Away From You\u201d from his teenage days on the mid-1960s Canadian music scene.\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube\">\n<p>\n<span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Casting Me Away from You\" width=\"1200\" height=\"900\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/TPOd7JYHvKc?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/span>\n<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t\u201cThose two old songs, they just seemed to fit with the new ones,\u201d Young told fans. \u201cThere was no concept. [The album] is a couple of old songs, and lot of new ones. With the length of the new songs, we could have knocked out the old songs and still had an album, for length. But we went ahead and added the two old songs. That\u2019s what this album is about. It\u2019s about the new songs vs the old songs. The old songs offer some sort of reflection and juxtaposition or something. He was originally slated to return to Europe this summer for an encore run, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/neil-young-cancels-european-summer-tour-1235512283\/\">but he cancelled the dates earlier this year. <\/a>\u201cEverything is OK,\u201d he told fans. \u201cJust needed a break. He\u2019s next scheduled to play September 26 at Farm Aid in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
