The percussionist\u2019s death on Aug. 17 at 77 follows that of original bass player <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/zz-top-bassist-dusty-hill-dead-obit-1203694\/\">Dusty Hill<\/a>, who died in 2021, leaving singer-guitarist Billy F. Gibbons as the sole member of the Texas band\u2019s classic lineup. The group said it was canceling a pair of shows scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday, but that they\u2019ll return to the road this weekend for two concerts in Austin, \u201cone of Frank\u2019s favorite venues and in a city that had been something of a second home for him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tWhen ZZ Top play those shows at the ACL Live at the Moody Theater on Saturday and Sunday, they\u2019ll do so with Elwood Francis on bass and Michael Monahan on drums. But the Top\u2019s last gig with its original lineup took place on July 18 at Louisville, Kentucky\u2019s Iroquois Amphitheater. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tThey played a 15-song set that night centered largely around their hits, including \u201cI\u2019m Bad, I\u2019m Nationwide,\u201d \u201cSharp Dressed Man,\u201d \u201cLa Grange,\u201d and \u201cLegs.\u201d Here is fan-shot video of \u201cTush,\u201d the final song of the group\u2019s set. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube\">\n<p>\n<span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"ZZ Tops Dusty Hill Final Performance. ZZ Top\u2019s first album in 1971 was created by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/billy-gibbons\/\" id=\"auto-tag_billy-gibbons\" data-tag=\"billy-gibbons\">Billy Gibbons<\/a>, Frank Beard, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/dusty-hill\/\" id=\"auto-tag_dusty-hill\" data-tag=\"dusty-hill\">Dusty Hill<\/a>, and that trio remained rock solid for 50 years. That\u2019s an absolutely astounding feat when you consider that most rock groups of that era have shifted lineups countless times.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t\u201cIt\u2019s a clich\u00e9 and sounds so simplistic, but it\u2019s down to the three of us genuinely enjoying playing together,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/ultimateclassicrock.com\/zz-top-dusty-hill-interview\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Hill said in 2014.<\/a> \u201cWe still love it, and we still get a kick out of being onstage. We also have enough in common to maintain a bond between us but sufficient differences to keep our individuality.
