{"id":71583,"date":"2026-08-28T18:09:35","date_gmt":"2026-08-28T18:09:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/musicianvoice.com\/index.php\/2026\/08\/28\/the-who-rehearsed-for-a-tour-with-zak-starkey-after-bitter-split\/"},"modified":"2026-08-28T18:09:35","modified_gmt":"2026-08-28T18:09:35","slug":"the-who-rehearsed-for-a-tour-with-zak-starkey-after-bitter-split","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/musicianvoice.com\/index.php\/2026\/08\/28\/the-who-rehearsed-for-a-tour-with-zak-starkey-after-bitter-split\/","title":{"rendered":"The Who Rehearsed For a Tour With Zak Starkey After Bitter Split"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tA little over a year after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/the-who\/\" id=\"auto-tag_the-who\" data-tag=\"the-who\">the Who<\/a> got into a very public spat with longtime drummer Zak Starkey, where <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/the-who-parts-ways-zak-starkey-1235318856\/\">they fired him,<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/zak-starkey-back-the-who-pete-townshend-1235321402\/\">re-hired him three days later,<\/a> and then<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/the-who-part-ways-drummer-zak-starkey-again-farewell-tour-1235342140\/\"> fired him again the following month,<\/a> a surprising new chapter in the saga has begun.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tWhile playing a solo show at the Encore Theater in Las Vegas on August 26, Roger Daltrey told the crowd that the Who recently rehearsed with Starkey for a possible European leg of their Song Is Over farewell tour. \u201cIt sounded great,\u201d he said, according to <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/neon.reviewjournal.com\/kats\/daltrey-does-vegas-no-to-sphere-yes-to-more-who-3341202\/\" target=\"_blank\">a review in the <em>Las Vegas Review-Journal.\u00a0<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tStarkey <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DcksrZ1Ts7R\/?hl=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">shared an image of that review on Instagram.<\/a> \u201cNice one Rog,\u201d he wrote. \u201cLookin forward to tearin it up with the Who again. The rehearsal was great.. I don\u2019t think we\u2019ve ever rehearsed as tough as that. Usually we drink tea and talk about what time we\u2019re going home! Daltrey just kicked off a run of solo shows stateside, but told the <em><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.azcentral.com\/story\/entertainment\/music\/2026\/08\/20\/roger-daltrey-on-the-who-pete-townshend-ahead-of-solo-tour\/91377651007\">Arizona Republic<\/a><\/em> that the Who aren\u2019t over. \u201cWe had a rehearsal recently to make sure we can think about doing some shows in Europe because we\u2019ve still got to say goodbye to them and goodbye to some other countries in the world that we had success,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd the rehearsal went extremely well and sounded fantastic. So, I mean, it\u2019s not over by any means. The show included the live debut of the <em>Who\u2019s Next <\/em>deep cut, \u201cThe Song Is Over.\u201d It was a messy rendition, marred by technical issues, and Daltrey reportedly assigned some of the blame to Starkey.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t\u201cHe came in four bars early,\u201d<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-features\/zak-starkey-interview-fired-by-the-who-1235364330\/\"> Starkey told <em>Rolling Stone<\/em> in an extensive interview<\/a> conduced after he left the group. \u201cHe just got lost. He blamed it on the drums being too loud, and then it got made into this huge social media thing. And it freaked him out and he\u2019s going around doing solo shows, and saying it\u2019s \u2018fake news.\u2019 But it wasn\u2019t me. I was in the car and gone before they finished the last acoustic song. There was no argument in the dressing room. Nothing. I\u2019m not going to name names or who did what\u2026I don\u2019t blame anyone. I don\u2019t hold any grudges. It\u2019s the Who. Weirder shit than this has gone down. I\u2019ve heard them say weirder shit than this. It\u2019s tough to put into words actually, but I know it\u2019s there and it\u2019s real.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tDevours remains Daltrey\u2019s solo drummer. He was onstage in Vegas when Daltrey told the crowd about Starkey\u2019s rehearsal with the band, surely doing his best to maintain a neutral facial expression. But how any of this is going to play out in the future remains an open question.
