Several fans, many dressed in Rodrigo-styled baby doll dresses, said they were drawn to the event because of their love of Rodrigo but also because they want a better world for women and girls. Alannie, 18, says that at her age, the ticket price was a big investment, but after learning Rodrigo\u2019s motive behind the fest, she wanted to participate. \u201cI see it as a purpose, to give my money to all these foundations,\u201d she says.\u00a0<\/p>\n \n\tA trio of early-thirties Filipina women \u2014 Nerissa, Christabel, and Monica \u2014 were also excited to support the nonprofits. \u201cI very strongly resonate with the different organizations she was promoting,\u201d Nerissa says, adding that she\u2019s used Planned Parenthood\u2019s services in the past. Christabel adds, \u201cI think it\u2019s such a beautiful thing that Olivia is creating a festival and a place for us all to gather to really empower, advance, and advocate for women and the organizations at Daisy Chain Reaction.\u201d Monica addressed the issue of representation, saying, \u201c[Olivia] is Filipino, so she\u2019s representing our people, and also the lineup of amazing artists that she put together.\u201d<\/p>\n \t\tRelated Content<\/p>\n<\/h2>\n<\/section>\n \n\tThat lineup made for 14 sets and 10 hours of great music. The sets kicked off with Quiet Light, the stage name of singer-medical student Riya Mahesh. She and her dancers slowly grooved, striking ballerina-styled moves during \u201cPostinternefame\u201d from her 2026 mixtape Blue Angel Sparkling Silver 2<\/em>. Eli Miller, who performs under her first name, followed. Amid songs like \u201cNobody\u2019s Girl\u201d and \u201cGirl of Your Dreams,\u201d Eli delivered a powerful message about loving our neighbors, \u201cno matter what they believe or don\u2019t.\u201d She also pledged money to some of the day\u2019s participating organizations.<\/p>\n \n\t\u201cIt\u2019s fucking hot right now,\u201d Rachel Chinouriri<\/a> told the audience during her set. \u201cThe U.K. ain\u2019t like this.\u201d But Chinouriri kept the vibe going anyway, tearing through her tender 2025 single \u201cCan We Talk About Isaac<\/a>\u201d while premiering material off her upcoming album I Think I Spoke Too Soon, <\/em><\/a>\u201cIt\u2019s about my twenties, and realizing I\u2019m not the person I thought I was,\u201d she said of the album. And I can become whoever I want to be.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tFollowing her performance, Chinouriri said she was excited to join the lineup, shouted out Lilith Fair, and gave kudos to Rodrigo for her inclusiveness when it came to the nonprofit partners. BMMA in particular is close to her heart. \u201cIt\u2019s really heartwarming to see [Rodrigo] take the initiative for that because sometimes Black women are very overlooked in many ways or not understood, especially in health care,\u201d she tells Rolling Stone<\/em>. \u201cI think that the level of thoughtfulness of that was so sweet.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tDevon Again got the call to join the festival just last Thursday, after Katseye had to cancel<\/a> due to member Megan Skiendiel\u2019s ankle injury. \u201cI said, \u2018Duh bitch, obviously I wanna do it,\u201d she told the crowd. But Eyekons got a taste of Katseye<\/a>\u2019s Lara Raj, Yoonchae Jeung, and Skiendiel, who appeared at the start of Devon\u2019s set to introduce nonprofit Baby2Baby. Afterward, Devon performed a country-tinged set, which included fan favorites \u201cSkittles\u201d and \u201cCherry Cola.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n \n\tDie Spitz<\/a> took the prize for calisthenics at Daisy Chain. The four-piece from Austin, Texas ripped through their midday set, where the blazing sun was no match for their energy (if a little hard on their face paint). At one point bassist Kate Halter did a full-on handstand. Die Spitz<\/a>\u2019s all-girl metal was met warmly, so much so that singer \u200b\u200bEleanor Livingston jumped into the crowd to join the revelers.<\/p>\n \n\tBack in 2022, Santigold<\/a> took a hiatus from the road, telling Rolling Stone<\/em><\/a> <\/em>about the \u201ccultural crisis\u201d and economic and mental-health challenges plaguing those who make music for a living. She resumed touring in 2024, though the dates have been selective and for short runs, which makes any chance to see her live special. Her Daisy Chain set was thoroughly joyful, including a dance contest and a bevy of fan-favorites like \u201cL.E.S. They\u2019ve barely slowed down since. \u201cWhat a gift Olivia has given all of us to have this festival,\u201d singer Kathleen Hanna told the crowd. Like many of the bands here, Bikini Kill used their limited stagetime to play the hits. Though they blazed through two songs from their last album, 1996\u2019s Reject All American<\/em>, the band focused mostly on early songs, opening with \u201cDouble Dare Ya\u201d from their 1992 EP, before sliding into \u201cThis Is Not a Test.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n \n\tWhen Hanna told a story about a 40-year-old man creeping on her when she was 17 to introduce the track \u201cFeels Blind,\u201d the crowd was rapt \u2014 \u201cThis is the most engaged crowd I\u2019ve ever seen in my life,\u201d she said. Closing with \u201cSuck My Left One\u201d and \u201cRebel Girl,\u201d Hanna growled and danced her way across the stage, reminding the audience exactly why this band influenced a generation of women\u00a0\u2014 and were integral to a festival like this ever coming into existence.\u00a0<\/p>\n \n\tMitski<\/a> was feeling the communal spirit during her set in the late afternoon, telling the audience multiple times that she loved \u201cevery one of you.\u201d She had already put that love into practice with a series of PSAs concerning the extreme heat: advising fans to sit down right where you are if you\u2019re faint, head to the pit if you need water, and wear sunscreen. Of course, Mitski also delivered a stellar set, which included highlights from her 2026 album Nothing\u2019s About to Happen to Me<\/em><\/a> like \u201cWhere\u2019s My Phone?\u201d and \u201cThat White Cat,\u201d alongside fan-favorites like \u201cNobody.\u201d \u201cI feel like we should do this every year,\u201d she said to loud cheers. \u201cFor the rest of our lives you can be like, \u2018Oh yeah, I\u2019m OG DCF.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n \n\tThe Breeders<\/a> have been in the Rodrigo camp for a few years now, opening up for the pop star on several dates of her GUTS<\/em><\/a> tour. But their inclusion in the festival was part of the appeal of the lineup\u00a0\u2014 the incredible mix of old and new. The fact that singer Kim Deal took the stage wearing a Shirley Chisholm shirt \u2014 referencing the first Black woman to serve in Congress \u2014 made their set feel all the more connected to the past. Starting their set with 1994\u2019s \u201cDrivin\u2019 on 9,\u201d the band included other OG-era classics like \u201cDo You Love Me Now?\u201d and \u201cCannonball,\u201d while working in new, unreleased songs like \u201cAlien Eyes,\u201d which they\u2019ve been playing throughout their summer tour. Getting to test things out on the road, Deal told Paste<\/em><\/a> magazine, is \u201clike it was back in the old days.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tWhen Doechii<\/a> hit Lollapalooza in 2025<\/a>, she stole the show as headmaster of the school of hip-hop. At Daisy Chain, she signaled a new era, one that is pink-hued and incorporates all the right moves onstage. Wearing a bikini while covered in hot-pink body makeup, she and her equally pink-painted dancers delivered incredible choreography on a headlining-worthy stage setup, complete with a large riser, an LED screen and metal bars that Doechii at one point acrobatically flipped over. She had us from the jump, launching into \u201cExtraL\u201d her 2025 collab with Jennie. Other collab tracks \u2014 the SZA team-up \u201cGirl Get Up\u201d and \u201cSwamp Bitches,\u201d with Rico Nasty \u2014 hit hard, even if those artists weren\u2019t present Saturday. Doechii\u2019s mashups also landed \u2014 \u201cAnxiety\u201d sampled Gotye\u2019s \u201cSomebody That I Used to Know,\u201d and Doechii freestyled over Beyonc\u00e9\u2019s \u201cAmerica Has a Problem,\u201d and even wove Britney Spears\u2019 \u201cToxic\u201d into the mix. She ended one of the best performances of the day with a rousing version of \u201cDenial Is a River,\u201d an instant-classic from 2024\u2019s Alligator Bites Never Heal<\/em><\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n \t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\tDoechii and dancers in full body paint<\/span><\/p>\n \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tPooneh Ghana for Rolling Stone<\/cite><\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n \n\tGarbage<\/a>\u2019s set was plagued by technical difficulties, but singer Shirley Manson kept her cool, joking that this was just the kind of thing the band was used to. \u201cAn entire career made up of this kind of carry on,\u201d she joked in her Scottish brogue. This, she said, was a lesson to the younger folks in the crowd: Even when things don\u2019t go the way you\u2019d hoped, the world keeps spinning. \u201cYou don\u2019t have to be perfect,\u201d she said. \u201cYou can fuck up.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tDespite the hurdles, the band still got through 1990s classics like \u201cOnly Happy When It Rains,\u201d \u201cWhen I Grow Up,\u201d and \u201cStupid Girl\u201d (which slipped into a brief cover of Bikini Kill\u2019s \u201cRebel Girl,\u201d much to the crowd\u2019s delight), as well as newer tracks like \u201cThere\u2019s No Future in Optimism\u201d and \u201cChinese Fire Hose,\u201d off last year\u2019s Let All That We Imagine Be the Light<\/em>.\u00a0<\/p>\n \n\tManson took breaks to address the audience, praising Rodrigo\u2019s ability to bring the multigenerational crowd together. \u201cWe\u2019ve been around since before most of you were born,\u201d she said. \u201cSo to be included in this festival lineup is an immense privilege, and it\u2019s not one we take lightly.\u201d She also imparted some words of hope for these dark times. \u201cI just want to assure you all \u2014 because I just turned 60, so I\u2019m very old,\u201d she joked. \u201cBut if you just keep putting one foot in front of the other as you move through your life, I can guarantee you, it\u2019s like putting pennies in a bank. Sooner or later, you build the life that you want.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tAt the end of last year, Chappell Roan<\/a> spoke about what she envisioned<\/a> for 2026. She said it will be \u201cthe year of taking care of myself and others and really engaging in a community that feels real and not online. Volunteering locally and giving money to organizations I believe in.\u201d Daisy Chain was the perfect place for that, and the crowd erupted when Roan emerged onstage around 7 p.m., wearing a lavender set and matching boots.\u00a0<\/p>\n \n\tThough the sweltering day had cooled down by then, \u201cHot to Go!\u201d still felt incredibly fitting. Roan tore through other favorites off her 2023 smash debut The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess<\/em><\/a>, including \u201cRed Wine Supernova,\u201d \u201cPink Pony Club,\u201d and \u201cCasual,\u201d plus the gem \u201cGood Luck, Babe!<\/a>\u201d and her most recent single \u201cThe Subway<\/a>.\u201d When Roan appeared on the Oct. 2024 cover of Rolling Stone<\/em><\/a>, Rodrigo spoke to us about the superstar. \u201cI remember her walking into the studio one day and just flat-out saying \u2018I don\u2019t give a fuck about what people say anymore. If I like it, then it\u2019s good,\u2019\u201d Rodrigo said. \u201cI could tell she actually meant it, too. That\u2019s her magic.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n \n\tMaria Zardoya recorded the first album of her solo project, Not for Radio<\/a>, in a house in Upstate New York, in the middle of winter, surrounded by snow and ice. The Daisy Chain locale could not have been more different. But Zardoya<\/a>, best known as the singer of The Marias, brought a chill over the audience with a handful of tracks from Melt<\/em><\/a> and her new EP, Bloom<\/em>. Maybe it was the woodland-themed set over which she seemed to float, or the bittersweet subject matter \u2014 the project is partially inspired by a split from the Marias\u2019 drummer, Zardoya\u2019s longtime partner \u2014 or maybe it was just the fact that the sun finally went down, but Zardoya\u2019s set offered a moment of catharsis. With songs like \u201cPuddle,\u201d \u201cSwan,\u201d and \u201cMy Turn,\u201d she reminded the crowd that it\u2019s OK to be a little down sometimes, too.\u00a0<\/p>\n \t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\tMar\u00eda Zardoya<\/span><\/p>\n \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tPooneh Ghana for Rolling Stone<\/cite><\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n \n\tThen it was time for Rodrigo, who capped off the night with a set that, appropriately, featured McLachlan. The pair performed McLachlan\u2019s 1997 hit \u201cBuilding a Mystery,\u201d and dedicated \u201cAngel\u201d to Dolly Parton, who died<\/a> on Aug. 25. Rodrigo\u2019s final guest was Nicks. Together they performed a showstopping \u201cLandslide<\/a>,\u201d which found the pair trading verses and dancing together. \u201cShe reminds me of me, when I was her age a hundred years ago,\u201d Nicks said of Rodrigo. \u201cAnd I\u2019m somewhat awestruck that she could do all this. Because it\u2019s so hard \u2014 you have no idea \u2014 putting this together with all of these people. And she\u2019s done it, with this grace.\u201d There were also plenty of Rodrigo\u2019s own classics, including \u201cBad Idea Right?,\u201d \u201cGood 4 U,\u201d and \u201cDrivers License<\/a>,\u201d the hit that first gave us a peek of the superstar she became, each drawing field-wide singalongs.<\/p>\n \n\tWhen Rodrigo announced Daisy Chain Fields, expectations were high, as fans hoped for a festival that delivered onstage and met its mission for empowering women and girls. Saturday exceeded those expectations. And it turned out that Mitski may have been onto something when she suggested we do this again: \u201cSee you next year!\u201d Rodrigo exclaimed at the end of her performance.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n
