Josh Johnson<\/a>, the SML<\/a> co-founder and member of Jeff Parker<\/a>\u2019s ETA IVtet<\/a>, has announced Animative<\/em>, the follow-up to his 2024 LP Unusual Object<\/em>. Making his debut on International Anthem<\/a>\/Nonesuch<\/a>, the composer, saxophonist, and synthesist will release the album physically on October 23 before a November 10 streaming release. Guests include Meshell Ndegeocello<\/a>\u2014whose 2023 album The Omnichord Real Book<\/em><\/a> Johnson produced\u2014Macie Stewart, Marquis Hill, and Ben Lumsdaine. Johnson will lead a trio with Anna Butterss and Ben Lumsdaine for album release shows in Los Angeles (October 27), Minneapolis (November 3), and Brooklyn (December 10) this fall, with more dates to come. Animative<\/em> follows a spree of releases and freewheeling endeavors from Johnson, including multiple records with SML<\/a>, another with Gregory Uhlmann and Sam Wilkes<\/a>, more with the Openness Trio (alongside Nate Mercereau and Carlos Ni\u00f1o), and production on Flea<\/a>\u2019s recent album Honora<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n
