Notably, the entire project is produced in full and co-written by GRAMMY Award-winning, Academy Award-nominated musician, filmmaker, and Louis Vuitton menswear Creative Director Pharrell Williams.<\/p>\n<p>The album marks the very first time the two longtime friends and industry heavyweights have joined forces for a full-length project in more than twenty years of friendship, yielding a lush, cinematic body of work that weaves together the vast strands of Black music, spanning gospel, classic soul, doo-wop, Afrobeat, standards, and hip-hop.<\/p>\n<p>More than two decades into a celebrated career defined by the iconic piano ballads audiences have made their own, Legend deliberately set out to defy expectations with Muse.<\/p>\n<p>The creative spark was ignited after Legend appeared on Clipse\u2019s comeback album, Let God Sort \u2018Em Out, which was produced by Pharrell. Legend\u2019s standout vocal performance on the track \u201cThe Birds Don\u2019t Sing\u201d inspired Pharrell to build an entire album around his voice.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen Pharrell called me, I thought, let\u2019s do this,\u201d Legend recalled. \u201cA lot of people would have imagined we\u2019d done something like this already, but we hadn\u2019t. It felt past due.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The duo convened in Paris in January 2025, writing and recording out of Pharrell\u2019s studio at Louis Vuitton headquarters. Channeling legendary influences like Nina Simone, Nat King Cole, and Marvin Gaye, Pharrell envisioned a distinct aesthetic for the project.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPharrell\u2019s idea from the beginning was that we would create something with all of these classic, cinematic elements, this Black James Bond aesthetic,\u201d Legend explained, \u201cbut with a modern backbeat at its foundation. You can hear traces of me and traces of him, but it sounds like something new for the both of us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Fans received an early preview of the collaboration on the runway via the gospel-tinged \u201cPray For Ya,\u201d which soundtracked Louis Vuitton\u2019s Fall-Winter 2026 Men\u2019s show.<\/p>\n<p>Alongside the album announcement, Legend released the lead single, \u201cDaylight,\u201d which he debuted with a special live performance from Nashville during CBS\u2019s America\u2019s Tailgate special marking the start of the NFL season.<\/p>\n<p>The range of Muse spans diverse emotional and sonic landscapes:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMuse\u201d: The title track opens the record, tracing a tumultuous relationship against the romantic backdrop of Paris and high art while nodding to the Muses of Greek mythology.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHer\u201d: A tender, nostalgic portrait of infatuation drawing heavily on gospel and doo-wop roots.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGet Back\u201d: Features Pharrell and showcases the project\u2019s smoky, cinematic soul flair powered by big horns and strings.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBodies On The Floor\u201d: Features Clipse, blending the language of gang warfare into a track about a toxic, magnetic bond.<\/p>\n<p>Turning over creative control required a new level of trust for Legend, who recorded songs on the project fully written by Pharrell\u2014a rarity in his career. Upon submitting the final mixes, Legend received a text from Pharrell: Thank you for trusting me. Thank you for your patience.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s not about winning the argument or ego,\u201d Legend reflected. \u201cIt\u2019s about the music winning.
