The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/macklemore-apologizes-for-alleged-anti-semitic-costume-97527\/\">rapper apologized<\/a>, but insisted he was just trying to disguise himself.)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tAdding that Gillette Stadium was committed to \u201cproviding a welcoming environment for all guests and ensuring that all events held at our venue do not provide a platform for hate speech,\u201d Kraft said that the venue decided that Macklemore\u2019s participation in Sheeran\u2019s two upcoming shows at Gillette \u201cwould cross that line.\u201d\u00a0(Macklemore has been dropped from not only the Gillette Stadium shows, but the rest of Sheeran\u2019s Loop tour.)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tKraft\u2019s statement was released after Macklemore, in his own comment, alleged that Kraft called Sheeran and told him the rapper \u201cwould not be allowed to perform in his stadium.\u201d However, Kraft did not acknowledge Macklemore\u2019s other major claim about the situation: that Kraft also \u201crallied some of the other stadium owners and collectively they gave [Sheeran] an ultimatum: If Macklemore stays on the tour, you will not be allowed to play in our venues.\u201d (A rep for Kraft did not immediately return a request for comment on that allegation.)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tThe uproar over Macklemore and his spot on Sheeran\u2019s Loop tour erupted after the rapper joined the trek in early September for two shows at Metlife Stadium outside New York City. At the first gig, Macklemore yelled \u201cFree Palestine\u201d; expressed solidarity with people in Gaza and the occupied West Bank; showed images of the devastation from Israel\u2019s war on Gaza; and performed his protest song, \u201cHind\u2019s Hall,\u201d about pro-Palestine demonstrators at Columbia University.\u00a0<\/p>\n<section class=\"brands-most-popular \/\/ editors-pick-module lrv-u-margin-tb-2 lrv-u-border-a-2 u-box-shadow-5-5 lrv-u-padding-lr-1 a-span1 u-padding-b-1@tablet u-overflow-hidden\">\n<h2 id=\"section-heading\" class=\"c-heading larva  lrv-u-text-align-center u-border-color-black a-font-theme-primary-xxs lrv-u-color-black lrv-u-text-transform-uppercase u-letter-spacing-0063 lrv-u-padding-t-050 u-padding-b-0375@tablet lrv-u-padding-b-050@mobile-max lrv-u-border-b-2\">\n<p>\t\tEditor\u2019s picks<\/p>\n<\/h2>\n<\/section>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t\u201cA big part of the reason why I wanted to do this tour in the first place is so I could stand up in stadiums like this and say two words that are very near and dear to my heart: \u2018Free Palestine,\u2019\u201d Macklemore said onstage. \u201cI said, \u2018Free Palestine!\u2019 I want those words to be loud and clear, so that people all the way in Gaza to the occupied West Bank know that we have not forgotten about them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tIn his own statement, Kraft insisted his decision to ban Macklemore from Gillette was \u201cnot about diminishing the suffering of innocent Palestinians or denying anyone the right to advocate on their behalf.\u201d He argued, however, that such advocacy \u201cshould not come at the expense of the Jewish community or obscure the responsibility of Hamas.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tHe continued: \u201cToo many lives have been lost and there has been too much suffering, but only sharing selective information and ignoring the actions of Hamas is not honest and only advances more divisiveness and hate. Over many decades, I have directed resources to Palestine and created athletic and entrepreneurial opportunities for Palestinians who I admire and respect. Standing with the Palestinian people and standing against Hamas, antisemitism and hate should not be mutually exclusive.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tKraft, who is Jewish, is a strong supporter of Israel and Jewish causes, having <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thekraftgroup.com\/kraftphilanthropy\/israel\/\">donated millions<\/a> of dollars to them over the years. When criticizing Israel, opposing Zionism or saying \u2018Free Palestine\u2019 gets conflated with hatred of Jewish people, it doesn\u2019t protect Jewish people.
