\n\tLast week, in a discussion with Rolling Stone<\/em><\/a> about the upcoming Joy Division<\/a> box set Eternal (Live)<\/em>, Joy Division\/New Order<\/a> drummer Stephen Morris explained why he likely wouldn\u2019t be attending the band\u2019s upcoming induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame or participating in New Order\u2019s upcoming South American tour.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI\u2019ve got a bit of a health problem at the minute, which precludes leaving the country for any length of time,\u201d he said. \u201cI really don\u2019t want to dwell on what this illness is, but it\u2019s pretty serious. It\u2019s not something that someone\u2019s going to come up with a cure for.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThis generated headlines all across the world that the drummer was seriously ill. But in a new statement from New Order,<\/a> keyboardist Gillian Morris \u2014 Stephen\u2019s wife of 32 years and an original member of the band \u2014 revealed that she\u2019s actually the one with the health problem.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThank you everyone who has reached out following Stephen\u2019s recent interview with Rolling Stone<\/em>,\u201d Gillian Morris wrote in a statement. \u201cWe have both been incredibly touched by all the kind words and well wishes. I would like to gently clarify a misunderstanding from the interview, in the course of which comments were misinterpreted leading people to believe that Stephen is seriously ill. Thankfully, he is well. It is in fact me, who like many other people, is living with cancer. We completely understand how the misunderstanding arose and simply wanted to ensure that the correct information was shared. We are enormously grateful for everyone\u2019s kindness and support and would appreciate some privacy as I continue with my treatment.\u201d<\/p>\n
