\n\tFive years after Crying in H Mart<\/em>, Japanese Breakfast<\/a>\u2018s Michelle Zauner<\/a> has revealed her next book: Thank You for Your Suffering<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n \n\tThe memoir, out April 27, 2027 via Penguin Random House, traces Zauner\u2019s year in South Korea, connecting with her family in Seoul and learning Korean in the hopes of reading her late mother\u2019s diary. It details her journey of living in a foreign city \u2014 from the apartment she moves into with her husband and bandmate (Peter Bradley), to the difficulty of learning the language \u2014 and her newfound connection to her roots.<\/p>\n \n\tCrying in H Mart,<\/em> which stemmed from a 2018 New Yorker<\/em> essay<\/a>, centered on Zauner\u2019s relationship with her mother, the meals they shared, and finding a new connection to her Korean-American identity. Around the release of the book, she was already contemplating its follow-up. \u201cI think that desire will strike again pretty soon,\u201d she told Rolling Stone<\/em><\/a>.<\/em> \u201cI definitely feel like I have another book in me, if I\u2019m not horribly panned.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tThat was hardly the case, as Crying in H Mart <\/em>spent over 100 weeks at Number One on the New York Times<\/em> Bestseller list (a film adaptation<\/a> was in the works, but was put on pause after actor-director Will Sharpe stepped away<\/a> from the project). \u201cI think, if anything, perspective makes the best work,\u201d she said at the time. \u201cSo if I\u2019ve been away from the screenplay for years, when I open it back up again, I think it\u2019s only going to get better from there. I think someday I would like to direct it.\u201d<\/p>\n
