He was 74.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tJim Merlis, a spokesperson for the group, confirmed Byrne\u2019s death, adding that he died \u201cpeacefully \u2026 after a brief illness.\u201d A specific cause of death was not immediately available.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tByrne and Rob Fisher, college friends from Bath, England, were first members of the band Neon, which included future Tears for Fears members Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith. Byrne and Fisher went on to become a duo, launching Naked Eyes in 1982, the year they also signed to EMI Records.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube\">\n<p>\n<span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Naked Eyes - Always Something There To Remind Me (Official Music Video)\" width=\"1200\" height=\"900\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/lVrELhxOFnM?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/span>\n<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tTheir debut studio album, which was self-titled in the U.S. and Canada and called <em>Burning Bridges<\/em> elsewhere, arrived the next year. The LP rose up the charts, reaching Number 32 on the Billboard 200 on the strength of two of the album\u2019s hits: a cover of Burt Bacharach and Hal David\u2019s \u201cAlways Something There to Remind Me,\u201d which peaked at Number Eight on the <em>Billboard <\/em>100, and \u201cPromises, Promises,\u201d which reached Number 11 and imbued their signature synth-pop sound. The album\u2019s \u201cWhen the Lights Go Out\u201d also became a Top 40 hit.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tThe New Wave band recorded a sophomore album, <em>Fuel for the Fire<\/em>, in 1984. That, too, spawned a Top 40 hit with \u201c(What) in the Name of Love,\u201d and the album peaked at Number 83 on the <em>Billboard <\/em>200 albums chart.
