Now the Iguana has collaborated with Mogwai on \u201cUnderground,\u201d a funny new song with a video directed by Scott McPherson that features on their upcoming compilation, <em>Happy Tears<\/em>, out Jan. 8.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t\u201cI am a robot and I am unhappy,\u201d he says, sounding as serious as he did on \u201cPunk Rock\u201d on the new song. \u201cI have been designed to make money, but I want to make love.\u201d Then the guitar comes in (sounding very \u201cpunk rock\u201d) and Pop\u2019s signature sense of humor juts out: \u201cI don\u2019t need to suck a cock,\u201d he sings. \u201cAll the friends that I have got understand these words I spit\/I don\u2019t need to sing bullshit.\u201d Unlike Mogwai\u2019s early music, \u201cUnderground\u201d has a hard beat on which Pop sings, \u201cUnderground, you\u2019re my home\u201d with the same affinity for underground music he had when talking about punk in \u201977.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube\">\n<p>\n<span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"MOGWAI feat. The sung vocal, which was arranged by Matt Sweeney, felt like it was made for someone who is pissed off and doesn\u2019t mind saying so.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tThe song previews <em>Happy Tears<\/em>, which acknowledges Mogwai\u2019s 30-year history. The compilation collects highlights and rarities from the influential post-rock band\u2019s including a reworking of \u201cNew Paths to Helicon 1,\u201d newly retitled \u201cBrand New Paths to Helicon 1,\u201d featuring the Budapest Art Orchestra. It will be available in double- and quadruple-LP configurations, as well as a double CD and digitally. The expanded editions include 13 additional tracks, including six previously unreleased songs. They\u2019re also releasing a two-and-a-half\u2013hour audio documentary, <em>Happy Tears: The Story of Mogwai<\/em>, to go along with it.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t\u201cI never thought we\u2019d be making 11 records, because hardly any bands I liked ever did,\u201d the band\u2019s Stuart Braithwaite said in the audio doc. \u201cWe\u2019re doing it being weirdo Scottish instrumental misery mongers.
