What’s Wrong With Charles Kelley?<\/h3>\n
Lady A co-founder Charles Kelley has multiple myeloma, a form of cancer. He shared the news with fans on social media on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
“Right now I feel great,”\u00a0he shared.<\/p>\n
The 45-year-old began a road to diagnosis after “random rib fractures.” His doctors ordered blood tests, which revealed multiple myeloma.<\/p>\n
What Is Multiple Myeloma?<\/h3>\n
Per\u00a0the\u00a0Cleveland Clinic<\/a>,\u00a0multiple myeloma is a rare form of blood cancer “that happens when healthy plasma cells become abnormal cells that multiply and produce abnormal proteins.” These build up in bone marrow, crowding out normal bone marrow cells.<\/p>\n This can affect bones, kidneys and blood cells.<\/p>\n Easily broken bones are one symptom. Others include fatigue, frequent infections and bone pain.<\/p>\n Additionally, the abnormal cells can prevent bone marrow from producing healthy red blood cells, which can lead to anemia.<\/p>\n The Mayo Clinic<\/a> lists five things that can increase risk for multiple myeloma. These include:<\/p>\n Chemotherapy, immunotherapy, stem cells transplants and medication are common forms of treatment for multiple myeloma, and while it’s\u00a0considered to be incurable, advanced treatments can put this form of cancer into long-lasting remission.<\/p>\n The overall five-year survival rate is 62 percent although some people live more than 10 years.<\/p>\n “This first six months of treatment I believe is not gonna be too super invasive,” Kelley told fans. “I can still work. I think physically I will feel like myself. I’ll have tough days, but, you know, I wanna keep working.”<\/p>\n Between 2016 and 2022, the five-year survival rate for multiple myeloma was about 64 percent. Still, that doesn’t necessarily indicate a specific patient’s outcome, and Kelley says he’s feeling optimistic about his treatment plan.<\/p>\n “I’m young. I feel healthy. And the treatments, I will just say, have come so far even in the past five years that life expectancy far exceeds what it used to be,” he said. “I don’t know, I feel really hopeful.”<\/p>\n Lady A has new music and a tour planned for late 2026 and 2027.\u00a0Their next scheduled date is Dec. 10 in Ohio.<\/p>\n Kelley’s news comes 35 days after news of Dolly Parton<\/a>‘s death following a short, quiet battle with cancer. Other celebrities who’ve battled multiple myeloma include Sirius XM personality Dallas Wayne and Bruce Springsteen<\/a>‘s wife Patti Scialfa.<\/p>\n Charles Kelley and his wife Cassie married in 2009. The couple have two kids: Son Ward, born in 2016, and son Archer, who was born in September of 2025.<\/p>\n He’s also brother to singer Josh Kelley.<\/p>\n Cancer touches almost every family at some point, and country stars are no exception.
