Throughout the decades, hip hop continues to evolve as a global cultural movement that inspires artists and fans alike.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tMayor <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/zohran-mamdani\/\" id=\"auto-tag_zohran-mamdani\" data-tag=\"zohran-mamdani\">Zohran Mamdani<\/a>, a self-professed fan of hip hop who used to rap under the moniker \u201cYoung Cardamom,\u201d recently sat with rap icon <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/nas\/\" id=\"auto-tag_nas\" data-tag=\"nas\">Nas<\/a> at Queensbridge Park, outside of Nas\u2019s childhood home at the Queensbridge Projects.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tIn a\u00a0new video\u00a0from the Mayor\u2019s Office, Mamdani and Nas discuss the roots of hip hop and what it means to New York City\u2019s past and future. \u201cWe can\u2019t be content with New York City simply being the birthplace of hip hop. They said we are going to back this,\u201d said Principal Jason Reyes. \u201cWho would have ever thought that hip-hop would make it this far? So, it means the world to know that our city is leading the way in a way that no one else has ever done it.
