{"id":74352,"date":"2026-10-06T14:30:36","date_gmt":"2026-10-06T14:30:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/musicianvoice.com\/index.php\/2026\/10\/06\/boston-hardcore-band-haywire-talks-new-album-touring\/"},"modified":"2026-10-06T14:30:36","modified_gmt":"2026-10-06T14:30:36","slug":"boston-hardcore-band-haywire-talks-new-album-touring","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/musicianvoice.com\/index.php\/2026\/10\/06\/boston-hardcore-band-haywire-talks-new-album-touring\/","title":{"rendered":"Boston Hardcore Band Haywire Talks New Album, Touring"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tOnly a nor\u2019easter could have stopped <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/boston\/\" id=\"auto-tag_boston\" data-tag=\"boston\">Boston<\/a> hardcore band <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/haywire\/\" id=\"auto-tag_haywire\" data-tag=\"haywire\">Haywire<\/a> from performing the dates leading up to the release of their new album, <em><a href=\"https:\/\/bio.to\/Haywire617\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/bio.to\/Haywire617\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">I Don\u2019t Wanna Say Goodbye<\/a><\/em>. They were booked to play a string of gigs late last month, including a high-profile slot at New York\u2019s CBGB Festival, until they were all wiped out by that East Coast storm.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t\u201cIt takes a miracle for us to cancel,\u201d says frontman Austin Sparkman. That\u2019s not hyperbole for Haywire, who have played more than 400 shows since forming in 2023. In fact, they played 96 gigs in 101 days across all 50 states in the summer of 2024. \u201cI just try to do everything to the extreme,\u201d Sparkman adds.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tHe\u2019s been like that since he was a kid. He dealt with familial drug abuse before moving in with an adoptive family in the tiny village of Barnesville, Ohio, when he was a child. His new family provided for him, but he still brought his books to school in a grocery bag. Before he moved to Barnesville, Sparkman was into hip-hop, but his new brother taught him about heavy music. He went to his first show at age 13 and started playing music at 15. Eventually, he began booking shows in his adopted parents\u2019 basement, a.k.a. the Lakeview House, and driving hours to hardcore and emo gigs in neighboring cities.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube\">\n<p>\n<span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"HAYWIRE 617 - &quot;INTERSTATE LOVE AFFAIR&quot; OFFICIAL MUSIC VIDEO\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/0WrE5PGAU6g?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/span>\n<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tThe young musician moved to Boston in 2013 with no cellphone and two duffel bags of clothes. \u201cI was a child with a pizza shop job,\u201d he says. \u201cI couldn\u2019t afford anything but T-shirts.\u201d Once he got to South Station, he called a friend on what he thinks must be the last payphone in existence. \u201cI was met with, like, 30 people that were awesome and kind of adopted me,\u201d he says. \u201cI immediately had a friend group and started going to shows, started playing in bands, and one thing led to another.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tIn just three years, Haywire has played more shows than most bands ever will, including tons of DIY gigs and a tour with the Dropkick Murphys earlier this year. They dropped their debut album, <em>Conditioned for Demolition<\/em>, in 2024, before signing with Roadrunner Records for <em>I Don\u2019t Wanna Say Goodbye<\/em>, which came out on Oct. 2. That record runs the gamut from straight-ahead, anthemic ragers to more tongue-in-cheek ruminations on life\u2019s bumps and skips.<\/p>\n<section class=\"brands-most-popular \/\/ editors-pick-module lrv-u-margin-tb-2 lrv-u-border-a-2 u-box-shadow-5-5 lrv-u-padding-lr-1 a-span1 u-padding-b-1@tablet u-overflow-hidden\">\n<h2 id=\"section-heading\" class=\"c-heading larva  lrv-u-text-align-center u-border-color-black a-font-theme-primary-xxs lrv-u-color-black lrv-u-text-transform-uppercase u-letter-spacing-0063 lrv-u-padding-t-050 u-padding-b-0375@tablet lrv-u-padding-b-050@mobile-max lrv-u-border-b-2\">\n<p>\t\tEditor\u2019s picks<\/p>\n<\/h2>\n<\/section>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tTake the opening track, \u201cThat\u2019s Life,\u201d a breakup song that kicks off with a pitch-perfect Frank Sinatra impression courtesy of Jesse Wagner of the Aggrolites (who also performed the backing music). \u201cAnytime something severely bad would happen, my friends would just yell the words \u2018That\u2019s life!\u2019 super loud, and it almost made a dark moment comical,\u201d Sparkman says.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tHe came up with the riff for that song while playing a show under a bridge in London. That\u2019s not so unusual: Haywire are partial to a bridge show. \u201cIt feels like you\u2019re living outside of society\u2019s rules, and you can do whatever you want with all the people that are the same as you,\u201d Sparkman says. \u201cAll these missing puzzle pieces from under the couch all link up under a bridge and light shit on fire.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"post-content-image \/\/  \">\n<figure class=\"o-figure   size-large alignnone lrv-u-max-width-100p\" style=\"width:1024px\">\n<div class=\"c-lazy-image  lrv-u-border-a-2\">\n<div class=\"lrv-a-crop-16x9\" style=\"padding-bottom:calc((683\/1024)*100%);\">\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div><figcaption class=\"c-figcaption  lrv-u-flex lrv-u-flex-direction-column lrv-u-align-items-center\">\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<cite class=\"lrv-u-text-transform-uppercase lrv-a-font-body-xs lrv-u-margin-t-050 lrv-u-text-align-center\">Anthony Orosz*<\/cite><\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tThe album features even more guests, including Nothing on the title track, which is about a friend-hangout you never want to end; designer Cheyenne Snider (daughter of Dee) on couple\u2019s spat \u201cTrouble in Paradise\u201d; singer Mat Kerekes on the bittersweet \u201cSincerely Yours\u201d; and hardcore musicians Aaron Butkus and Bruce Lepage on \u201cForever Alone,\u201d about overcoming addiction. The title is a reference that works on a few levels: Lepage\u2019s former band 100 Demons has a song about the same subject called \u201cSo Alone,\u201d featuring Butkus. Butkus\u2019 band Death Threat then did a song called \u201cStill Alone,\u201d featuring Lepage. I feel like I have made a lot out of nothing from where I came from.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tAnd Sparkman isn\u2019t wasting a minute. Those East Coast fall tours may be toast, but they have 250 more shows planned in 2027 and miles to go before they tap out. \u201cI always refer back to this video I saw that said: \u2018How lucky I am to be tired of the dream, of the life I once dreamed to have,\u2019\u201d he says. \u201cI\u2019m living my life. I don\u2019t want it to stop. I gotta strike while the iron\u2019s hot.
