Produced alongside longtime collaborator Rex Rideout and acclaimed bassist Christian McBride, the expanded project serves as a deepened salute to Ledisi\u2019s personal hero, the legendary \u201cQueen of Blues,\u201d Dinah Washington.<\/p>\n<p>Bridging Washington\u2019s brazen spirit with Ledisi\u2019s signature soulfulness, the tribute album actively works to reaffirm Washington\u2019s vital legacy and celebrate her status as one of music\u2019s greatest trailblazers.<\/p>\n<p>The newly released deluxe edition enriches the original acclaimed project with four additional tracks. The expansion is anchored by the focus track, a traditional jazz standard rendition of \u201cIll Wind (You\u2019re Blowing Me No Good),\u201d alongside a brand-new recording of the classic blues song \u201cNobody Knows the Way I Feel This Morning.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rounding out the new additions are the recently released single \u201cTeach Me Tonight\u201d and a special Village Studios session recording of Washington\u2019s iconic hit \u201cWhat a Difference a Day Made.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>More than a musical salute, the project operates as a thank-you letter from one powerful Black woman to another. Ledisi, who formally studied jazz before cementing her status as a premier contemporary R&amp;B vocalist, credits Washington with clearing the path she has navigated throughout her career.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cShe gave me permission to move freely, create freely, be a woman in leadership, wear and say what I want,\u201d Ledisi explained. \u201cBefore there was Aretha, there was Dinah. She deserves to be recognized in today\u2019s music as well. So instead of asking me \u2018Why Dinah?,\u2019 you should be asking \u2018Why not Dinah?&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Reflecting on Washington\u2019s legacy of rebellion against industry constraints and her bold physical presence, Ledisi noted that the repertoire provides a space to celebrate her own femininity without reservation. \u201cIt\u2019s my fur; it\u2019s my curves and the tightness of my dress. And it\u2019s in the attitude of how I move with the music.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For Dinah (Deluxe Edition) boasts elite musicianship and top-tier guest appearances.
