Key people\u00a0behind 1986 music movie Crossroads<\/em><\/a> are planning a sequel 40 years on, and guitar icon Steve Vai<\/a> is set to take part again, they revealed.<\/p>\n Screenwriter John Fusco has stayed in contact with actor Ralph Macchio<\/a>, who played lead character Eugene \u201cLightning Boy\u201d Martone in a story based on the life of blues great and \u201c27 Club\u201d<\/a> member Robert Johnson<\/a>, said by some to have sold his soul to the Devil in return for musical talent.<\/p>\n Fusco told Guitar World<\/em><\/a> that they\u2019ve often discussed the idea of a follow-up film, and now it\u2019s beginning to take shape.<\/p>\n READ MORE: <\/strong>Top 10 Rock Movies<\/a><\/p>\n \u201cRalph and I, we call\u2026 and he\u2019s like, \u2018We should do some kind of anniversary thing,\u2019\u201d he explained, referring to the four decades that have passed since Crossroads<\/em>\u2019 initial release.<\/p>\n \u201cAnd I said, \u2018We should do the freaking sequel.\u2019 He\u2019s like, \u2018No shit, really? Do you have an idea?\u2019 I said, \u2018Yeah, I have an idea for it.\u2019 So Ralph and I have talked about it. We\u2019ve got a plan.\u201d<\/p>\n He added that, while no details could be revealed, the resulting movie would be \u201cexciting to music fans\u201d and \u201cto blues purists.\u201d<\/p>\n Macchio reported: \u201cIt would be years and years later, less about Eugene Martone and more about someone relevant today. I can\u2019t go into a deep dive on that stuff, but I haven\u2019t given up on it.\u201d<\/p>\n In\u00a0a film that bombed before finding a cult following on home video, Vai played the role of Jack Butler, who faces off against Martone in the movie\u2019s climax scene.
