After much speculation, Nine Inch Nails have confirmed they will embark on a world tour this year. The band revealed the news on social media, but acknowledged that they were holding off on the official announcement and specific details due to the ongoing fires in Los Angeles.
“Since some dates and information about our world tour have leaked we are confirming that yes we will be touring and will provide more details soon,” the band wrote. “We are all watching the devastation that is unfolding in California and have paused our announcement while people try to deal with all that is happening.”
The band also shared a list of resources for fire relief on their Instagram stories, including the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank and Los Angeles Animal Services.
Rumors about the tour kicked into full gear yesterday when fans began sharing screenshots of prematurely-posted Facebook events for upcoming shows on a Nine Inch Nails subreddit. These included a Sept. 10 date for the “Peel It Back World Tour” in Tampa, Florida, and a Ticketmaster listing that shows an on-sale date of Jan. 17. Other screenshots revealed shows in Atlanta, Raleigh, Philadelphia, Cleveland, London, and Toronto.
The band has yet to confirm any of the shows and have not yet announced a title for the world tour. The leaked title, Peel It Back, is a nod to Nine Inch Nails’ 1994 track “March of the Pigs,” suggesting that the tour could be an anniversary run in support of their LP The Downward Spiral, which turned 30 last year.
Nine Inch Nails last performed in 2022. Their most recent world tour was The Trilogy Tour in 2017 and 2018. In recent years, frontman Trent Reznor has been focused on writing films scores alongside collaborator (and now Nine Inch Nails bandmate) Atticus Ross, which has resulted in numerous awards, including a recent Golden Globe for Luca Guadagnino’s Challengers.
Last spring, Renzor and Ross spoke about their plans for Nine Inch Nails, including a possible new album. “I do feel excited about starting on the next record,” Ross noted. “I think we’re in a place now where we kind of have an idea.” In December, Reznor confirmed that the duo is “taking the inspiration we’ve garnered and funnelling it into a Nine Inch Nails project, which we’re working on now. We’re ready to be back in the driver’s seat.”
