Daniel Seavey made an album that is completely true to who he is. On Monday, the musician announced that he’ll release his debut solo album, Second Wind, on March 7, three years after his band Why Don’t We went on hiatus.
“2 years in the making and we’re finally here,” he wrote on Instagram, where he shared the beachy album cover. “I have so much to say but most of all I want to thank you for taking the time out of your life to care about mine.”
“I’ve always dreamed of making an album that just felt 100% like me from top to bottom and that’s exactly what this album is,” he continued. “There’s so much more to say but for now I just want to say thank you so much for sticking by me on this wild journey and I cannot wait for you to hear everything.”
The LP, a collaboration with producer Michael Pollack, will hear Seavey pull from “early-aughts, pop-rock inspirations,” and follows his 2023 EP, Dancing in the Dark. The new 12-track album includes songs such as “Sleeping With the Lights On,” “Sunny Isles,” “Waves,” and its title track, which will drop this week.
“For myself and for my sanity, I’m going to be so authentically me,” he told Rolling Stone in early 2023 as he kicked off his first solo tour. “If it hurts me, I can at least die knowing I did that for myself because I needed to.”
Last fall, Seavey started his solo album era, releasing singles “Gateway Drug” and “If I Ever Go to Heaven.” He also joined Dean Lewis on “Fix You” and Destiny Rogers on “Pray for Me” last year. Seavey was one of the founding members of the boy band Why Don’t We, which went on hiatus in 2022 amid a heated legal battle with their former managers.
