Ángela Aguilar on Christian Nodal Marriage: We ‘Are Being Villainized’

Ángela Aguilar is setting the record straight about her marriage with Christian Nodal. In a new interview with ABC News Live, set to air tonight on Prime with Linsey Davis, the música mexicana star addresses speculation surrounding her recent marriage to Nodal and the tabloid fodder that has circulated around it.

“I don’t feel like I need to explain anything to anyone,” she tells Mireya Villarreal in the clip, which premieres exclusively with Rolling Stone. “I think that people are being villainized and I think people are being badly portrayed. I think that they’re not putting our characters where they should be. I don’t think they even know 5 percent of the story they’re trying to tell.”

“But that’s OK, because that’s what sells. And we’re in an industry and we’re working,” she adds. “I signed up to be a singer, but I got all of this. So it’s part of it.”

Nodal and Aguilar married in late July just weeks after confirming their relationship earlier that month. In June, Nodal shared a video addressing infidelity rumors between him and his former partner, Argentine musician Cazzu. In the post, he said he was now “living a precious experience with a woman I love,” but shared that he greatly respects his ex. Nodal and Cazzu, who share a daughter, Inti, split in late May after dating for two years.

The quick turnaround of events from Cazzu and Nodal’s breakup announcement in May to Aguilar and Nodal’s marriage just two months later created a huge uproar among música mexicana listeners, as Aguilar was categorized as a homewrecker by fans online.

“The only thing I can say about it is all the parties at hand are together and united,” Aguilar explains in the ABC News interview. “We’re all on the same page and no one’s heart got broken, you know, we have a clear consciousness.”

“I think the fans because they love us they’re trying to protect us in many ways and what everyone should know is we’re all ok, we’re all happy, we’re all adults,” she adds. “We know how to handle this situation. It’s not like what you see on social media is not what it is.”

Nodal and Aguilar have known each other for years. The pair toured together on Pepe Aguilar’s Jaripeo Sin Fronteras show back in 2018. In late November 2020, they released a successful duet called “Dime Cómo Quieres” about a guy who fails to make a girl fall in love with him.
