The song, written for TV series The Americas, features tribal group the Makah Singers
Brandi Carlile has released a new song, “Wandering.” The track is a collaboration with tribal group the Makah Singers and was written and recorded for NBC/Peacock nature series The Americas, which premiered this week.
“When I was approached to write and perform a song for The Americas, I was absolutely thrilled,” Carlile said in a statement. “For me, the Makah people have been the bedrock of what it means to truly know the Pacific Northwest. Alongside the many proud tribes of the PNW, they are and always will be the heart and soul at the gates of the Salish Sea. Of course, this gorgeous and thought-provoking series spans the entire continent and miles and miles of Indigenous peoples’ land. ‘Wandering’ is so much more than a song.”
The Americas is narrated by Tom Hanks and features music by composer Hans Zimmer. The show, produced by the BBC Studios Natural History Unit, is the first nature series to focus entirely on the Americas.
A synopsis notes, “The Americas showcases the wonders, secrets and fragilities of the world’s great supercontinent. For the first time, the Americas stars in its own incomparable series, using cutting-edge technology to uncover never-before-seen behavior, and highlight the extraordinary, untold wildlife stories that will deeply connect with millions around the world. Five years in the making and filmed over 180 expeditions, this groundbreaking series reveals the spectacular landscapes of Earth’s most varied landmass – the only one to stretch between both poles.”
“Wandering” comes in the midst of Carlile’s promotion for her forthcoming album with Elton John. The collaborative LP, Who Believes in Angels?, is out April 4 via Interscope Records. Earlier this month, the pair debuted a colorful music video for their single “Who Believes in Angels?” The pair tapped photographer David LaChapelle, John’s frequently collaborator, to direct the clip.
