A “king of special guests,” Zedd last brought out Morris for “The Middle” and Katy Perry for “365” during his Coachella performance in 2019
Expect a high-octane performance from Zedd at Coachella this year. Rolling Stone can confirm Wednesday that the DJ will bring out country queen Maren Morris during his Outdoor Theatre performance on Sunday.
“Zedd has got a lot up his sleeve for this year’s Coachella,” the source tells Rolling Stone. “He is the king of the special guests.”
While it’s unclear what exactly Morris will perform or if she’ll plays new music, fans might expect her to join Zedd for “The Middle,” which pushed the country star into the mainstream. The pair also collaborated in 2022 for “Make You Say” with Beauz.
“Zedd and Maren are always there for each other musically – when Zedd evolved his sound Maren was there to record ‘Make You Say,’” the source says. “Now that Maren is doing the same with her sound for new album, Zedd is there for her. They really want to give fans a show.”
Morris is set to release her summer-ready, 14-track album Dreamsicle on May 9, just a few weeks after the performance.
Last time Zedd was in the desert, he brought out Katy Perry for a rendition of their futuristic single, “365,” and Morris joined during the fest’s second weekend in 2019. During his 2016 appearance, the DJ brought out Kesha for a rendition of “True Colors.” This year marks the tenth anniversary of True Colors, Zedd’s seminal album, which featured Selena Gomez, Troye Sivan, and Jon Bellion.
Both Zedd and Morris have credited the importance of “The Middle” to their careers. “‘The Middle’ was a once-in-a-lifetime song,“ Morris told Rolling Stone in 2022. “It’s definitely one of the biggest songs I’ve been a part of, and it really opened me and my work up to a much larger audience. It was a moment in time, and no one in our camps could have predicted the reach it had.”
