Attention Walmart shoppers: Your local Walmart location might be closing soon!
The retail giant’s total fiscal year revenue topped $681 billion and comparable sales grew 4.6 percent last year, while online sales soared by 20 percent compared to 2024, but that doesn’t mean every Walmart store has been a success.
Despite a successful fourth quarter—the store chain’s Q4 revenue hit $180.6 billion—as well as plans to open more than 100 brand new store locations by the end of the year, Walmart will be shuttering more than 10 stores in six different states this year.

According to the company, these closures will be permanent. (These particular locations are not being refurbished, etc.)

Walmart Stores Closing in 2025
The following Walmart locations will be permanently closing in 2025. Exact closing dates have not yet been announced.
- California: Eventual store closings are expected in the cities of San Diego (Imperial Ave), El Cajon store (Fletcher Parkway), West Covina store (Eastland Center Drive), Fremont store (Albrae Street), Granite Bay store (Douglas Blvd.)
- Colorado: Aurora store (E. Colfax Ave.)
- Georgia: Dunwoody store (Ashford Dunwoody Road), Marietta store (Roswell Road)
- Maryland: Towson store (Putty Hill Ave.)
- Ohio: Columbus store (S. High St.)
- Wisconsin: Milwaukee store (W. Main St.)
If your local Walmart is on the list of underperforming locations set to close by the end of 2025, we do have some good news: The retailer will mark its overall growth by opening dozens of new stores throughout the U.S. by the end of the year.
Other popular American retail chains that plan to expand their locations this year include Sam’s Club, Trader Joe’s and Target.
