Tekashi 6ix9ine was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly violating conditions of his supervised release, which was part of his probation related to a federal racketeering and firearms case plea deal.
His attorney Lance Lazzaro tells Rolling Stone that Hernández was arrested on Tuesday on a violation of supervised release for three technical violations. “We are confident that he will be released from custody at the next court appearance,” Lazzaro says. “They are technical violations, and we have a defense to each one of them.”
ABC7 reported that the rapper was detained after traveling to Las Vegas without permission. He was arrested on a warrant issued by the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, arraigned, and pleaded not guilty to the specifications.
Tekashi 6ix9ine, born Daniel Hernández, also failed to attend a scheduled drug test, and tested positive for methamphetamine. The rapper claimed he tested positive because he was taking Adderall, per ABC7.
In 2018, Hernández was arrested in New York on racketeering and firearm charges, related to his involvement with the Nine Trey Bloods gang. Although he initially pleaded not guilty, Hernandez later entered into a plea deal and testified on the gang’s illegal activities, admitting that he had ordered a Nine Trey member to shoot at rival rapper Chief Keef.
The artist was sentenced to two years in prison at the end of 2019. The following year, he was released early over concern his health would be severely affected if he were to contract Covid-19 during the beginning of the pandemic.
Hernández will spend the next two weeks at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, until his next evidentiary hearing on Nov. 12. The latest arrest on Tuesday is among a long list of legal issues the controversial rapper has faced over nearly a decade.
Last month, his ex-girlfriend Jorgina Lulu Guillermo Diaz sued the rapper and accused him of posting revenge porn of her online, as well as physically and emotionally abusing her. In the filing, Diaz alleged that Hernández beat her, drugged her, and stole from her. The listed causes of action in the suit were nonconsensual pornography, battery, fraud, and intentional infliction of emotional distress. When speaking to TMZ at the time, Hernandez denied the claims.
He was arrested in Santo Domingo in 2023 on suspicion of attacking two music producers, with TMZ reporting at the time that Hernandez was allegedly jealous of the producers for spending time with his then-girlfriend, the Dominican rapper and singer Yailin La Más Viral. One of the producers who was allegedly assaulted told local publication Diario Libre that he suffered an injured jaw that would require surgery.
