Big Freedia Announces Gospel Album ‘Pressing Onward’: See Track List

Big Freedia is gearing up to release her first-ever gospel record. On Monday, the bounce icon announced her LP Pressing Onward, and shared its track list, which includes collaborations with Billy Porter and Tamar Braxton.

“This album started as a message of healing for the world — but now, it’s me who’s holding on to the music for strength,” Freedia wrote on Instagram about the LP, which drops Aug. 8. “I’ve poured my heart into every beat, every word, I’m leaning on the love of my family, friends and fans to keep me moving forward.”

The album title, Freedia wrote, is also a tribute to her late partner Devon, who died recently. “Losing my partner Devon so suddenly changed everything,” Freedia said. “This album started as a message of healing for the world—but now, it’s me who’s holding on to the music for strength.”

The upcoming album will feature 14 songs, including tracks titled “All I Need,” “Pew,” “Let It Rain,” and “Praise Dance.” The LP also features “Holy Shuffle” with Billy Porter and “Sunday Best” featuring Tamar Braxton.

“I’ve been waiting my whole career to make this album,” said Big Freedia in a press release. “The church always spoke to me: the drama, the choir, and the attire. We are in uncertain times, I’m hoping fans can get some faith and hope from this album.”

The musician led the LP with “Take My Hand” back in March. Freedia previously described the era of music as “taking it back to my roots.” She grew up being the choir director of her high school and home church in New Orleans. She also performed with the New Orleans Gospel Music Workshop of America.
