Pat Green suffered a “deeply personal loss” during the recent flash flooding in Texas. The country singer shared that his brother, sister-in-law, and two of their children were caught up in the devastating floods in Kerrville, Texas.
“Over the weekend, during the devastating flooding that hit Central Texas, my family — like so many others — suffered a heartbreaking and deeply personal loss,” Green wrote on Instagram. “We are grieving alongside countless Texans whose lives have been upended by this tragedy. Right now, we kindly ask for privacy and space as we mourn, support each other, and begin to process what comes next for our family.”
He added, “Thank you for your love, prayers, and compassion.”
Green’s wife Kori shared his statement on her own Instagram page, adding, “We are so thankful for the outpouring of love and concern. Pat’s little brother John, his wife, Julia, and two of their children were swept away in the Kerrville flood. We are heartbroken and anxiously waiting for all of them to be found. Thank you for your prayers.”
According to the Express, John Burgess and Julia Anderson Burgess were camping at Blue Oak RV Park with their two sons, James and Jack, when the flood hit. The newspaper reports that the couple’s daughter, Jenna, was safe at a nearby camp. Michael Schwab, Julia’s cousin, also shared an update on social media on Tuesday afternoon, confirming that the adults’ bodies have been recovered but the search for the children was still ongoing.
“We were deeply saddened to learn this morning that my cousin Julia Anderson Burgess’s body has now been found,” he wrote on X. “We continue to pray for their two boys who are still missing at this time. As we continue to process everything, we’d ask that everyone please continue to respect the Burgess and Anderson families’ privacy.”
Green is from Texas and often sings about the Lone Star state. The musician postponed a concert that was scheduled for Saturday night in Luckenbach, Texas, due to the flooding. According to NBC, at least 110 people are dead across six counties, although the majority are in Kerr County. Texas governor Greg Abbott said an additional 161 people have been reported missing.
“We are not leaving until this job is finished,” Abbott said. “The primary job right now continues to be locating everybody who was affected by this flood. We have to find every single person who’s missing; that’s job number one.”
Local officials estimate that over 12,000 homes were damaged, and over 650 people have been rescued from affected areas. On Sunday, President Donald Trump signed a Major Disaster Declaration authorizing federal disaster aid and activating the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
