Powerful women in Latin music undoubtedly dominated 2024. On Thursday, the Latin Grammys highlighted Elena Rose, Kali Uchis, and Emilia for a jam-packed segment celebrating female pop stars.
Uchis — dressed in a corseted cream dress — opened the segment with an orchid-directed microphone as she performed “Te Mata,” backed by a live band. Uchis’ collab with Peso Pluma, “Igual Que Un Ángel,” is nominated for Record of the Year, while her LP Orquideas is up for Best Pop Vocal Album.
Elena Rose continued by performing “Caracas en el 2000,” as she shouted out her native Venezuela for a vocally driven performance. The track, a collaboration with Jerry Di and Danny Ocean, is nominated for Song of the Year.
Emilia then brought the pop star energy as she took the stage dressed in a purple two-piece with fuzzy boots. Surrounded by a group of dancers, the Argentine pop star performed her Ludmilla collaboration “No_Se_Ve.mp3” from mp3, which, like Uchis, is up for Best Pop Vocal Album.
Thursday’s telecast is scheduled to see performances from Becky G, Carín León, Grupo Frontera, Joe Jonas, Pitbull, Residente, Luis Fonsi, and Carlos Vives. This year’s Latin Grammys air live from the Kaseya Center in Miami on Univision and Vix.
Elena Rose took the stage last year, after being nominated for Songwriter of the Year that year. She also earned a nod for writing Gente de Zona and Becky G’s “Muchacha,” which was up for Best Urban Song. This is the first time both Emilia is up for an award. Uchis earned a nod for her song with Juanes, “El Ratico,” in 2017.
