In the opening line of Sam Hunt‘s “Country House” lyrics, he sings: “Bible by the bed, double barrel by the door.”
Released last spring, the song has been a hit with fans. But is it a true story? Does he really keep a shotgun by the front door?
Hunt was a guest on Taste of Country Nights recently, so we asked him about it. He wrote “Country House” with Ross Copperman, Josh Osborne and Michael Lotten.
Are Sam Hunt’s Song About His Real Life?
“There is a double-barrel, a few double-barrels,” the “Body Like a Backroad” singer confirms, “but they’re not quite by the front door — they’re off to the side.”
In other words, enter at your own risk if you’re not invited.
In “Country House,” he also sings:
“I can ride some squares ’round / Our own little fresh patch of beans / Where I can run my bird dogs / Cut the grass with my shirt off / Swim in my old pair of jeans.”
Do the Hunts Grow Their Own Beans? Are They Farmers?
Not quite.
“Not since my brother-in-law moved from the property, he ran the garden, so not at the moment,” Hunt reveals.
Does Sam Hunt Mow Shirtless?
Nah. He’s got a guy for that.
“I have to say, I haven’t cut the grass in quite a while” the star admits.
Does Sam Hunt Really Swim in His Jeans?
This one got to him — he couldn’t help but laugh when asked.
“No, I’ve now upgraded to a proper bathing suit,” he says, “but I have been known to cut off a pair of jeans and go swimming in them.”
Does Sam Hunt Have a New Album Out?
Hunt’s latest EP, Locked Up, came out in April of 2024. It’s not clear when a true studio album will follow.
How Many Kids Does Sam Hunt Have?
Sam Hunt and his wife, Hannah Lee Fowler, are raising three kids together. They have a daughter named Lucy Louise, 3, and two sons, Lowry Lee and Weyman, who was born in May 2025.
