The family carne asada takes a wild turn in Snow Tha Product’s hilarious new video for “Sábado.” On Thursday, the Mexican American rap star dropped the video, which slams Trump supporters, with Rolling Stone.
In the clip, Snow spits fiery bars as the “black sheep” who discovers someone in the family voted for Trump, causing the family party to turn into a big fight. She then starts airing out the traitors in the crew: the ones who backed the pelos de elote (corn-haired) Republican, the cousins who throw around the N-word despite not being Black, and even the homophobic uncles who “are gayer than me” once the drinks hit.
“[It’s] a family gathering gone wrong, with some finger pointing and an attempt at accountability — which, in the video, actually never happens,” Snow tells Rolling Stone. “I wanted the vibes to be felt through the screen, so I brought a bunch of people together to make a video that shows what a lot of us are feeling as a community.”
In the video, Latino social media stapes such as Brown Bag Podcast‘s Letty Peniche and DoKnow, along with TikTok stars like Jesus Acevedo, throw cake at each other and fight after being ignited by Snow’s revelations.
“There’s a lot of infighting and a lot of blame being thrown around — and honestly, frustration, and rightfully so,” says Snow. “We’re angry, we have so many emotions, and one of them is also finding comedic relief in everything happening right now. You know Latinos always find a way to make fun of our trauma.”
Snow Tha Product has been one of the most vocal Latina celebrities when it comes to the injustices faced. by the Latino community, especially during the recent ICE raids that have roiled Southern California and other Latino communities. She even referenced Trump’s alligator Alcatraz on her recent single “Alligator,” or her 2016 single “Immigrants (Despierta).”
“Sábado” is set to be featured on her upcoming project, titled Before I Crash Out, which features Snow dropping bars in different genres but that all “reflect the feelings we’re experiencing right now with everything going on.” At the end of the “Sábado” video, she teases a single titled “Domingo,” out Aug. 27.
“It’s my way to express those emotions — in one sense, it’s the expression of all the stages of grief that happen when you lose someone or something,” she says of Before I Crash Out. “In another, it’s about that moment when you’re ready to crash out because you’ve simply had too much.”
