Billy Ray Cyrus celebrated his 64th birthday on Monday (Aug. 25), and he says his pop superstar daughter Miley Cyrus got him a truly one-of-a-kind gift.
“For my birthday, Miley gave me the gift of music,” he says in an Instagram post.
The song, titled “Secrets,” features musical contributions from Fleetwood Mac — his favorite band.
“I love you Mile,” Billy Ray adds.

Billy Ray also shared a snippet of the song in his social media post.
The video shows him walking through a field with a broad smile on his face, holding up his phone as he presumably listens to the song his daughter wrote for him.
Set against ’80s-inflected guitars, the mid-tempo “Secrets” asks Billy Ray to trust Miley with even his most difficult secrets and family information.
“Secrets / I wanna keep your secrets / Like sunlight in the shadows / Like footsteps in the grass,” she sings in the lyrics.
“I won’t ever break my promise,” the song continues, “Like a songbird in the silence / Like stones against the grass.”
What Has Miley Cyrus Said About Her New Song “Secrets”?
Earlier this summer, Miley spoke about the song during an appearance on the Reclaiming With Monica Lewinsky podcast.
There, the singer said “Secrets” was born out of her family’s ongoing — and often very public — drama.

“I wrote this song about my dad because I wanted him to tell me, even though they were secrets, even though I didn’t really wanna know, I wanted to be the one he felt safe enough to tell me the things the things that were damning and damaging to the family,” Miley explained.
“I wanted him to think that, as a middle child, I’m old enough that I could take some of that,” she continued.
“I always wanted my family to feel like I was the safe place,” she added, “that I always had the white flag when they came to talk to me.”
A Long Saga of Cyrus Family Drama
Miley and Billy Ray were reportedly estranged for a couple of years after Billy Ray’s divorce from Miley’s mother, Trish.
After his divorce, the “Achy Breaky Heart” singer had a brief marriage and contentious split from singer-songwriter Firerose.
More recently, Billy Ray has made headlines for a feud with his son Trace, which Trace said resulted in his father making threats of legal action.
In May 2025, Miley and Billy Ray appeared to be going through a reconciliation of sorts.
That month, Miley issued a statement shooting down rumors that she and Tish were feuding. In the same statement, she suggested that she and Billy Ray were also working through their issues.
“Now, in my thirties, family is my priority above all else,” she explained. “I’m at peace knowing bridges have been built and time has done a lot of healing.”
