Three ‘Yellowstone’ Cast Members Join Kacey Dutton

The newest cast additions for Yellowstone spinoff Y: Marshals should look familiar.

Three series regulars will join Luke Grimes (Kayce Dutton) and Kelsey Asbille (Monica) for the CBS procedural.

  • Y: Marshals will begin on CBS midseason this year.
  • The show will fill the Sunday 9PM ET time slot once it begins.
  • The youngest Dutton will pivot to a role as a U.S. Marshal out of Montana.

Earlier this summer, the Dutton Rules podcast team predicted Asbille and Brecken Merrill would return. Merrill plays Tate Dutton (Kayce and Monica’s son), and the latest cast update confirms he’s on board. It should be interesting to see what stage of life the character is in, as in real life he’s nearing his college-aged years.

Which Yellowstone Cast Members Are Joining Y: Marshals?

In addition to Merrill, Gil Birmingham and Mo Brings Plenty have signed on to Y: Marshals. They played Thomas Rainwater and Mo on Yellowstone, and Variety shares that they’ll do the same on this new show.

The cast announcement points to an essential plot point of the new television show: Monica was raised on the Broken Rock Reservation, and Native American heritage was portrayed with respect and honesty throughout the five seasons. Kayce was able to bridge the space between ranchers like his father and Chief Rainwater’s people.

During the final episodes, he brokered an agreement to sell his father’s ranch to Rainwater for 1883 prices, but he’ll get life rights to the property. So in some ways, the two men are next door neighbors.

Of all the possible Yellowstone spinoffs discussed, the setting and themes of Y: Marshals seem most like the original Taylor Sheridan show for that reason.

Here are the other cast announcements:

Arille Kebbel: U.S. Marshal Belle
Ash Santos: U.S. Marshal Andrea
Tatanka Means: U.S. Marshal Miles
Brett Cullen: Harry Gifford, head of the U.S. Marshals in Montana
Logan Marshall-Green: Pete Calvin, an old military friend of Kayce Dutton
