Russell Dickerson Had an Eye-Opening Experience With Vince Gill

Ever wondered what goes on backstage in Vince Gill‘s dressing room before a show? Thanks to Russell Dickerson, we now have a firsthand account.

Dickerson stopped by Taste of Country Nights this week to chat about his new album, Famous Back Home, on which he has a collaboration with Gill called “Never Leave.”

So, naturally, we had to ask him for some insider information on the Country Music Hall of Famer.

“I just sang with him [Gill] at the Opry last night actually,” the “Happen to Me” singer says.

They even hung out backstage beforehand. Dickerson admits he was nervous to walk into Gill’s Opry dressing room, as he was “A little like, ‘Oh, what do we talk about?'” but he adds that Gill was “super chill and super funny.”

“I walked over to his dressing room and we ran over the song a little bit.”

Dickerson explains that he only sang the harmonies, not even the actual words, but that in itself was enough to make a core memory for him.

“He was literally just singing the harmonies, and it was angelic, like, his voice is anointing,” he says of Gill.

So even a seasoned pro like Gill — who has performed thousands of times — needs to practice before taking the stage.

Keep in mind this is 18 years after Gill was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame (2007), and he is still going as hard as he once did and taking each and every performance just as seriously as when he was an opening act way back when.

A lesson to anyone who wants to be at the top of their craft: Never take your foot off the gas and always be early, ready and prepared, no matter what.

Is Vince Gill a Member of the Grand Ole Opry?

He sure is. He became a member on August 10, 1991.

Who Is Vince Gill’s Wife?

Vince Gill is married to fellow country music icon Amy Grant. The two tied the knot back in 2000.
