Cali Tucker has a famous family name, but that’s not the theme of her new video for her latest song, “Last Name.”
The former contestant on The Voice has famous connections to her aunt, Country Music Hall of Famer Tanya Tucker, and her mother, ’70s country star LaCosta Tucker. But her new song and video reach for a bigger, more universal message than trading in on a recognizable name.
“My song ‘Last Name’ is about resilience and the courage to chase your life’s dreams — even when that means doing it without the support of family,” Tucker tells us.
The video features Tucker as Cinderella, dreaming of a better life.
“The story of Cinderella perfectly captures this message: outcast by her stepmother and stepsisters, she rose above their mistreatment to become the princess,” Tucker explains. “No matter how difficult your home life may be, I want this song to inspire hope — that with kindness in your heart and determination in your spirit, you can achieve anything you dream of.”
Tucker co-wrote “Last Name” with Derek Robertson, Tricia Battani and Grammy-nominated G’harah “PK” Degeddingseze. The new video premieres exclusively with Taste of Country below:
Tucker is familiar to television viewers from her run on The Voice in Season 6, when she competed on Blake Shelton‘s team.
She’s also a fixture on some of the most prestigious live stages in her home city of Las Vegas, where she routinely headlines top venues including Aria, the Wynn, MGM Grand and more.
Tucker has seen success with several recent video releases. According to her official biography, Tucker’s videos for “Country Couture” and “Urban Cowboy” have both attracted considerable acclaim, and she took home Best Female Vocalist, Best Country Video, Best Song, and overall Judges’ Choice trophies in the Las Vegas Music Video Awards.
