The Puerto Rican superstar will headline the 2026 halftime show, but it’s not his first time on that stage
Bad Bunny’s upcoming Super Bowl halftime show is going to be a major moment, but it won’t be the Puerto Rican superstar’s first appearance on that stage. Back in 2020, he joined Shakira during her co-headlining performance with Jennifer Lopez at Super Bowl LIV.
Shakira and Lopez’s halftime show was the first to be produced by Jay Z and Roc Nation in collaboration with the NFL. The selection of the two best-selling artists was intentionally meant to reflect the Latin culture of host city Miami that year. That halftime show marked the third time Latin music artists headlined a Super Bowl halftime, as Gloria Estefan played both in 1992 and 1999.
During the Shakira and Lopez performance, Shakira came out first and her sole special guest was Bad Bunny. In early 2020, Bad Bunny was on a sharp rise leading up to the release of his second solo album YHLQMDLG later that month. Alongside Shakira, he performed his verse from the Cardi B hit “I Like It.” Then the pair played a mash-up of her song “Chantaje” and his track “Callaita.”
Bad Bunny was announced as the headliner for the Super Bowl LX halftime show on Sunday evening. The game will take place at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California on February 8, 2026. The announcement comes towards the end of a landmark year for the 31-year-old star. He released his sixth album Debí Tirar Más Fotos in January and announced a historic 30-date residency at El Choli in San Juan, Puerto Rico soon after. He will embark on a world tour beginning in November, hitting cities in South America, Australia, Asia and Europe.
Bad Bunny notably decided to not schedule any dates in the United States this year or next, calling his halftime show his sole performance in the country for this run. He told i-D recently that he had concerns for the safety of his fans.
“But there was the issue of — like, fucking ICE could be outside [my concert],” he said. “And it’s something that we were talking about and very concerned about.” Outside of music, Bad Bunny has starred in two movies this year: Happy Gilmore 2 and Darren Aronofsky’s Caught Stealing. He will host the Season 51 premiere of Saturday Night Live next month, with Doja Cat serving as the musical guest.
