Guitarricadelafuente Announces First U.S. Tour for ‘Spanish Leather’

The Spanish singer-songwriter will bring his latest LP stateside

After releasing his acclaimed album Spanish Leather earlier this year, singer-songwriter Guitarricadelafuente is ready to bring the music to the stage. The folk-pop artist has announced his first U.S. tour, which will take him to New York, D.C., Chicago, and California.

The tour is especially significant since a lot of the album was made stateside. “A good part of the album was developed in the U.S., so playing there for the first time is going to be very special,” he tells Rolling Stone exclusively. “I’m going with the same band and the same set I’ve been touring with in Europe, even if the venues are smaller, because I feel that’s the form and energy this album needs to be carried with.”

Spanish Leather comes three years after Guitarricadelafuente released his breakthrough debut album La Cantera. The new album, which includes production from Doja Cat and SZA collaborator Carter Lang, sees the artist try more forward-looking, pop-oriented sounds without losing the roots of Spanish folk traditions for which his music is known. Already, the work on Spanish Leather has connected with listeners and viewers: The visuals for his single “Full Time Papi” were recently nominated for a Latin Grammy in the Best Short Form Music Video category. Previously, Guitarricadelafuente got a nod in the same category for the video for “A Carta Cabal.”

“This is the second nomination I’ve received in this category. I believe the video, directed by Albert Moya, visually brings together the world this album lives in, and it’s the result of the work put into finding a concise concept,” he says. He adds, “It’s always been important to me to convey what I want through images. I’ve always placed great value on this, and being considered for this award feels significant because I see it as a reward for this way of expressing my music, and for the entire team that works around it.”
