Rod Wave was arrested on drug and weapons charges in Atlanta last Friday, Nov. 7.
According to Fulton County online jail records, the musician — real name Rodarius Green — was booked on two counts of possessing a controlled substance, possession of a firearm or knife, and reckless driving. He was released Saturday, Nov. 8, on an $8,000 bond, his lawyer confirmed.
In a statement shared with Rolling Stone, Green’s lawyers — Drew Findling, Marissa Goldberg, and Zack Findling — said the musician was “unjustly profiled and unlawfully arrested.” They claimed the arresting officer was part of the Atlanta Police Department’s “controversial Crime Suppression Unit — a group known for its aggressive tactics and emphasis on high arrest numbers rather than genuine public safety.”
The statement continued: “Mr. Green was targeted as part of this quota-driven approach, a practice that undermines justice and erodes community trust. We look forward to vigorously challenging this baseless arrest and the clear violations of Mr. Green’s rights in court.”
The Atlanta Police Department did not immediately return Rolling Stone’s request for comment.
Green was notably arrested the same day he earned his first Grammy nomination. He was nominated in Best Song Written for Visual Media for “Sinners,” which he contributed to Ryan Coogler’s smash film of the same name.
Back in May and June, the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office arrested Green on numerous charges, including aggravated assault, possessing and aiming a gun at someone, reckless conduct, conspiracy to commit a felony, simple assault, and battery. At the time, Green was released on a $50,000 bond, and his lawyer denied the accusations.
“There is no truth to these charges,” Drew Findling told Rolling Stone. “Rod Green was a victim of a burglary and committed no crimes. How he was even charged as a result of this situation is incomprehensible. This will absolutely be resolved favorably to Mr. Green.”
Green released his most recent album as Rod Wave, Last Lap, in 2024. Last month, he dropped a new single, “Leavin.”
